LA’s homeless money meltdown — City and County battle over $240M in federal funds
Days after it was announced homeless numbers in Los Angeles increased despite billions in taxpayer spending, Los Angeles City Hall and County are now fighting over who controls more than $240 million in federal funding.
The political fight erupted after the Trump administration threatened to strip the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, or LAHSA, of its authority to oversee the region’s federal Continuum of Care funding, which pays for permanent supportive housing, street outreach and other homelessness programs.
The federal government accused LAHSA of fraud and financial mismanagement.
Los Angeles received about $240 million through the program last year, the largest Continuum of Care grant awarded anywhere in the nation.
Mayor Karen Bass and City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson argued Tuesday, in a letter obtained by The California Post, that the federal money should flow directly to the city because Los Angeles is home to the largest share of the county’s homeless population and operates many of the programs that depend on the funding every day.

LOS ANGELES, CA – As new data show homelessness rising in Los Angeles, local activist John Alle said Mayor Karen Bass has neglected her responsibility to address the issue and witness firsthand the crime, drug use and deteriorating conditions in some of the city's hardest-hit neighborhoods.
The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority released its 2026 annual homeless count Friday, finding overall homelessness increased 3.4% in LA and 1.2% across the Los Angeles Continuum of Care following two consecutive years of declines, though LAHSA said "neither change is considered statistically significant."
The count estimated 45,194 people were experiencing homelessness in LA and 73,040 across the Continuum of Care, which excludes Long Beach, Pasadena and Glendale.
"She doesn't get it. She doesn't see it," John Alle, a Santa Monica business owner and co-founder of the Santa Monica Coalition who owns properties across Los Angeles, told Fox News Digital in an interview last month.

And I bet there are thousands of other programs giving away taxpayer money just like this one. It’s why I keep saying the only solution to all this is to cut spending. Right now we are funding our own destruction

If the care and well being of the homeless is the main concern... why the fuss??
Everyone knows why.... that money is being skimmed off to friends and relatives for BS "outreach" activities. It's the LA government's "learing" centers.
If this money was being used as it's supposed to... they should be fighting over who has to take it and be responsible for the activities.
