Chattel Slavery absolutely exists in Africa and the Middle East today. You might want to do a little research.

It exists in only a few areas. Mostly where the rule of law doesn't exist or has broken down. It's hardly a vibrant institution anywhere.

Know where it absolutely doesn’t exist? In western civilization and white run countries

Your links use an extremely broad definition of slavery

Forced Marriage is slavery? LMAO, I guess the princes and princess in European monarchies were slaves because they were forced to marry

Africans in America enjoy a higher standard of living and greater range of freedom and opportunity than will ever exist on their native continent.

The Atlantic slave trade was not without its evils but the ultimate outcome was and is positive regardless of what the predatory politicians say.

I believe many of you either forgot or are ignorant to the fact that the Civil War was fought over States Rights. Slavery which was legal in the North was even still legal in the North after the emancipation procuration which only applied to the Southern States.

Southern slavery was a tool to jen up support for the North while Northern slavery was not addressed until after the war was over.

That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Did Zambia fight a civil war because half their country thought they should be allowed to enslave people?

Or in the context of the article is the U.S.A. the only country that stood up and ended that travesty

But isn't the USA a most horrible country? So the, if I'm a traitor to the USA, I'm the bad guy for being a traitor against the evil racist USA?

My ancestors were Patriots, and I have 0 guilt over their actions, and I have no reason to apologize for the actions of people who lived before me. I had nothing to do with it.

How do you know if you were born 500 years ago your views on slavery would be the same they are today? You don't!

Absolutely. But thats by design.

Of the Democrat party that you probably still vote for. “As long as you are black, and you’re gonna be black till the day you die, no one’s gonna call you by your goddamn name. So no matter what you are called, ****, you just let it roll off your back like water, and you’ll make it. Just pretend you’re a goddamn piece of furniture.” - LBJ speaking to his chauffeur.

Why would that guy champion the Civil Rights Act, or as he called it "the **** bill"? Because he knew he could make African-Americans dependent on the Democrat Party for generations. “These Negroes, they’re getting pretty uppity these days, and that’s a problem for us, since they’ve got something now they never had before: the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we’ve got to do something about this — we’ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. . For if we don’t move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there’ll be no way of stopping them, we’ll lose the filibuster and there’ll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It’ll be Reconstruction all over again.”

The Democrats have had their boots on the necks of African Americans for 60 years. Trump is trying to wake you up to the possibilities of individual liberty and the power of self-determination rather than group-think and group victimhood. What have the Democrats ever done for the black community.

I hate confederate apologists with a passion. The slavery issue was chief among the state's "rights" in question. Don't play dumb.

Sowell also wrote: "The region of West Africa ... was one of the great slave-trading regions of the continent — before, during, and after the white man arrived. It was the Africans who enslaved their fellow Africans, selling some of these slaves to Europeans or to Arabs and keeping others for themselves. Even at the peak of the Atlantic slave trade, Africans retained more slaves for themselves than they sent to the Western Hemisphere. ... Arabs were the leading slave raiders in East Africa, ranging over an area larger than all of Europe."

This needs to be taught in every single school. It would dispell many common myths surrounding slavery.

Especially that part. It amazes me how many people I talk to who think that Africans were all on the same team.

Same. I don't get why people want to say it wasn't about slavery. I don't get the end goal.

I think some want to bring attention to the fact that the CW wasn't an altruistic crusade by the north to end slavery (which it wasn't, of course). But to act like slavery wasn't the key issue is being wilfully obtuse. Unnecessarily so.

Why does Brazil get such a pass?

No one ever talks about Brazil.

Almost 50% of all slaves to the Americas went to Brazil.

quote:

And how many of these 10.7 million Africans were shipped directly to North America? Only about 388,000. That's right: a tiny percentage.

In fact, the overwhelming percentage of the African slaves were shipped directly to the Caribbean and South America; Brazil received 5 million Africans alone!

Incredibly, most of the 42 million members of the African-American community in the United States descend from this tiny group of less than half a million Africans.

And Brazil was the LAST nation to abolish slavery.

(oh, and they hid Nazis; allegedly)
