Well done, Democrats.
This is on you.
quote:

The revival in Washington of the California model of governance was cemented by Democrats’ recent recapture of the Senate majority, and comes after a Trump-era hiatus during which the state was road-testing ambitious new policies. Another factor: California Sen. Kamala Harris is about to become vice president.

As for the status quo in California:

quote:

- Even though 43 percent of California’s general-fund budget is earmarked for K-14 education, California students under-perform the national average on reading and math scores (source: pages 24 and 25).

- The percentage of Californians attending a four year college hasn’t changed in fifty years, despite the trend nationally being upward.

- During a time period when California’s prison population declined 12%, spending on prison guards increased by $500 million.

- California only builds 44% of the housing it needs annually, costing the State $140 billion a year in economic output due to people who can’t afford to live and work in California (source: page 17).

- Electricity prices in California rose five times faster than the national average between 2011-2017, and Californians pay 60% higher than the national average for electricity. This is despite California having the highest output of hydroelectricity, which is the State’s cheapest source of electricity (source: page 39).

- According to the American Society of Civil Engineers “report card,” California earns a D+. CO2 emissions rose in California from 2011-2015 while they fell in the rest of the country during the same period (source: page 26).

- “Despite” having the strictest gun laws in the nation, California had more mass slaying in 2019 than any other state.

- If there’s anything to be gleaned from those fleeing California in droves (a net 135,600 last year – the third highest ever recorded), it’s that they’d much rather their country become “Texas or Florida again.”

People will point out how California is so successful and say they are the 6th largest economy in the world and have more Fortune 500 businesses and billionaires than anywhere else, but California is successful in spite of its politics, not because of its politics. They are just lucky that Silicon Valley decides to do most of its business in that state. It has nothing to do with their politics.

K-14? Is this kindergarten to 14 years old or did California add 2 grades?

I got laughed at when I said this. Look at all the key players the last year and those at the top and their ties. Its all California. If we got rid of them a lot of our problem would go away.

No joke here. About a decade ago we had an electricity bill of just over $800 in August alone. The home we were renting at the time was old and the insulation sucked. Summers here are brutally hot and the coastal elites, where the weather is nice, dictate energy policy and water usage for the rest of the state. Welcome to Central California. Where it’s “cheap” to live in California.

We’re also under threat of blackout usually for a few weeks each year too. This state is their model for your lives.

Worst electric bill I have ever had in my life was far under that and it was due to a large “surcharge” due to Hurricane Katrina. Bill was probably 3-6x normal cost.

California has the fifth-highest debt of any state with total liabilities coming out to $287.79 billion.

Total assets come out to $250.78 billion, giving California a debt ratio of 107.9%.

California’s debt and liabilities can be broken down into three categories: retirement liabilities, budgetary borrowing, and bond debt.

Combining California’s federal, state, and local debt, however, brings California’s debt total to over $1 trillion.

According to this report, the debt would cost each resident of California $33,000 or each taxpayer $74,000.

And damn near half of them are fleeing to other states now like Texas.

I saw that. Just assumed they have a large number of students that repeat two grade levels, hence the 14. I hope I'm wrong and the students aren't that damn dumb.

California was the 7th wonder of the world when it was less than 14 million people and had a Republican government.

Reagan's California was a beautiful place in my youth.
