Is there an organization in the whole damn state that doesn't take your money and line the pockets of politicians? Good god.

As if they didn’t already know. For some supposedly smart people teachers can be incredibly oblivious.

they tried to force my wife to signup for that crap when she started teaching in 2007, i think. She just ignored them and they went away. But, I can see how they get so many people to signup. They basically act as if it is a requirement for being a teacher.

I joined AFT a few years ago, mainly for liability protection. I'm seriously considering getting out.

Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana (A+PEL) is a NON-UNION organization that provides the same benefits, liability protection as the unions at HALF the membership fees. Since they are not a union, they cannot and do not contribute any money to political campaigns, organizations or candidates.

Makes sense that moochers on the public dole support the party of mooching on the public dole.

Thank God for Right to Work. My sister didn't have the option to not join those thugs when she taught in New Jersey.

They do a great job of scaring the crap out of new teachers, convincing them that they'll be sued and will need liability insurance. In most school districts, teachers pay around $400+ per year for membership.

That’s why I left that organization.

I have 23 years of experience as a classroom teacher and have not been a member of any union...EVER! As mentioned above, APEL is a great alternative. Outside of the large cities, most teachers, in my experience at any rate, are conservative politically. The ones that are liberal, though, are VERY loud concerning their beliefs.
