They try, but when youre in those stages it's a matter of whether you can get blood in fast enough. It's not good.

Stuff sounds pretty serious. WTF was Trump doing saying he is expected to make a full recovery? Sounds like he didn't know the situation as well as he thought. It was weird that trump tweeted while Steve was probably still in surgery.

In fairness to Trump, a lot of people at that time were saying similar, including other GOPers close to the Congressman. I'm no physician, but I wonder if more complete assessment and subsequent surgery revealed the damage to be more extensive than originally thought?

It's looking pretty bad right now man. He's having severe bleeding and will need several more surgeries. He needs as many prayers as possible.

I hope he pulls through. I also hope that after this ordeal he considers the power of congress every time a soldier is sent overseas to fight in some bullshite conflict that will result in many traumatic injuries like this.

Scalise's official Twitter feed released a statement earlier that he was in stable condition, so Trump was hardly going off unreliable information.

I heard from someone with close ties a single 7.62 through the hip. Much bone damage and massive blood loss. Many more surgeries in the future if he survives.

The many surgeries is evident solely because the type of injury. His pelvis is likely shattered, so will obviously require surgeries for a long period. May not be an indication of whether bleeding was controlled and any organs damaged

Just depends on the angle of impact. A glancing blow and he would have probably given a press conference already. A square on impact from the front/back, or a direct impact from the side with that caliber could have killed him inside a minute or two
Watching the vid from where the shooter was and Scalise playing 2nd base, it was probably a pretty square impact from the front. God willing that he makes it thru, he will probably limp the rest of his life, which would be a great outcome right about now
