For the past month, the Republican Party of Louisiana has promoted the veto override session, fighting with all the tools we have at our disposal. Chairman Louis Gurvich issued the following statement this afternoon:

“Louisiana Republicans are profoundly disappointed and deeply angered by the events that occurred in the Louisiana House of Representatives today. Louisiana Republicans insist that there must be consequences for the Democrats, Independents, and the one Republican who voted to sustain the Governor’s veto of the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act.

I am calling on Speaker Clay Schexnayder to immediately replace all Democrat House Committee chairs with Republicans who are members of the Conservative Caucus. If this does not happen, then a broader conversation about how the House of Representatives is run will become necessary.

We would like to point out to the voters that 67 of 68 House Republicans voted for the override of the veto of the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act today. The only Republican who voted against us is Representative Joe Stagni of Kenner, who is being targeted for recall. Additionally, 26 of 27 Senate Republicans successfully voted to override the Governor’s veto of the same bill. Only Senator Ronnie Johns failed to show up and vote.

While we are angry and plan to lead the charge to make sure this sort of thing never happens again, we want to express our deep appreciation to the great majority of Republican legislators who voted right 100% of the time.

Finally, we must address the fact that Senators Louie Bernard, Pat Connick, and Franklin Foil voted to sustain the Governor’s override of the Constitutional Carry bill, while Senator Ronnie Johns failed to show up and vote. We encourage the voters to hold them accountable as well.

Republican voters expect more.”

I’ve said for years that the LA GOP as an organization itself is nowhere near as powerful as a lot of people on this board thinks it is.

They think politicians work for the LA GOP when it’s really the other way around.

If they had that power, you would rarely if at all see statements like this because those demands would be made in private behind closed doors.

With that said, this statement doesn’t go far enough. The common denominator here is the weak, ineffective and tone deaf RINO leadership that we have in the senate and house. For Page Cortez and Clay Schexnayder to just simply stand by and refuse to whip votes while JBE worked his arse off and swung a big dick to keep democrats in line is just absolutely inexcusable and can only be chalked up to malice and a desire for the overrides to fail.

Those two must be removed from their leadership positions and replaced with Republicans who actually want to fight JBE and make him and his buddies eat shite.

Not to derail thread, but what is the country of origin for the surname "schexnayder"?

Never heard that name before.

Schexnayder is gone. Page will keep his spot.

Makes you pine for the days of strong leadership like John Alario, doesn’t it?

There is literally a village on Hwy. 90 west of New Orleans named Des Allemands.

Gurvich is the leader of the party. He should resign first but he’s just pointing fingers. Typical

The LA Republican politicians wanted both to fail. This was all planned. Now they can go into 2024 guns a blazing on these issues. They are playing us for suckers.

Not at all surprised. He's always been squishy and owes a bunch of favors since the Dems backed requiring insurers provide coverage for autism (which, sadly, his child has)

You know, Ronnie Johns always seemed like a good guy the few times I met him, but I have zero respect left for him after weaseling out of being accountable to his voters. Are we in the fricking 1940s where you can’t be mobile after a knee surgery? Nonsense, he just didn’t want to be responsible to his constituents.

Rarely does a specific issue make me mad, but this transgendered shite makes me very mad. Boys have no place competing with girls. Period. These law makers should be ashamed of themselves, especially if they have daughters.

Don't be fooled! Stagni is the only rino that voted no because they only needed one republican vote. Had they needed three there would have been three rino no votes.

Exactly, it was all planned. Waste tax dollars and get hopes up for nothing. LA Republicans need to be run out and replaced. Stagni was probably ready to get out and was paid a lot for his vote.

No way in hell does the PEOPLE of Louisiana want boys in girls bathrooms or in their sports! Why can’t we vote on this like the sports betting? Oh yeah, the voting system is fricked up....
