The Left has this myopic, egotistical view that their definition of peace is the same as that of every other country. With that, they think that all that's needed to achieve peace is just to give the other side enough to show our (the US') good intentions and everyone will just be happy and peaceful together.

Note how quickly Obama got the peace prize. He had barely been elected and had not sent in drone strikes on Randoms yet....

Exactly. His whole campaign theme was "Change", with a large part being changing from a war-waging US into one perusing peace by "just sitting down and talking with others, showing them that we're all the same" (paraphrased) and then giving them resources for them to use against us and/or our interests.

And then when Biden became President, he went right back to it.

This lady gets it. We may not be 100% on things, but we could have a civil discussion.

Doubt this would gain as much traction as if she would have said the opposite, but good on her.

I have no idea how old you are, but I'm old enough to remember the Left using the same "he's going to get us into WW3" cliche with Reagan in 1980.

I kind of get it back then and in 2016 with Trump though. Reagan famously didn't know how devastating nuclear weapons were until he watched some movie or TV show.... there is a naivety there with people who come from non-traditional political backgrounds like Trump and Reagan where they want to come in and instantly fix everything with a stroke of a pen when you really can't sometimes (you could more so in Reagan's day, but not now).

With Trump it was even more pronounced because he hadn't held office before. It doesn't mean you shouldn't give those guys a shot, but it is something that should be considered. And in 2024 it should be irrelevant since they guy has already been president.

Consider it's 2024 and THE LEFT is opposing Donald Trump because he will get us OUT of wars, rather than keep them going.

It's amazing how far Democrats will sway when they start profiteering from Globalism.

Riiiiight. LOL. The dude was actually a US Veteran during the nuclear era.

People who lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis learned what nuclear war was.

Maybe you should do a little research before you spout off next time.

quote:

Columbus day. In the morning at Camp D. I ran the tape of the movie ABC is running on the air Nov. 20. It’s called “The Day After.” It has Lawrence Kansas wiped out in a nuclear war with Russia. It is powerfully done—all $7 mil. worth. It’s very effective & left me greatly depressed. So far they haven’t sold any of the 25 spot ads scheduled & I can see why. Whether it will be of help to the “anti nukes” or not, I cant say. My own reaction was one of our having to do all we can to have a deterrent & to see there is never a nuclear war. Back to W.H.

Entry from Reagan's diary, October 10th 1983.

Anyone who wasn't at least a little skeptical of Trump in 2016 is a moron, and I would love to see you come up if I owned a payday loan place or a used car lot.

Being somewhat skeptical doesn't mean I thought the other side was good.

So he clearly had a visceral reaction to something he already knew..... and wrote about it in his own diary.

Just move along before you embarrass yourself further.

So he wrote in his journal he screened a film that might help the anti nuke crowd?

That doesn’t read like he didn’t know what a nuke could do. But more that the film brings out emotions.

He got a copy early and watched it.

I took it as at minimum he didn't fully appreciate what they could do and how devastating the aftermath would be.
