CNN

quote:

President Donald Trump said Thursday in an unscheduled news conference that all NATO members have agreed to increase their defense spending after he told them he was "extremely unhappy."

quote:

"I think it's a very effective way to deal," Trump said when asked by CNN about his insulting comments aimed at Germany. "It's a very effective way of negotiating."

Was it really insulting if he was merely stating facts??

USA spends x% of their GDP and Germany spends y%. Sometimes the truth hurts especially if Germany has no reasonable explanation why they pay less than their agreed upon fair share.

Getting them to agree to it is pretty easy. Getting them to actually do it is the trick. But there's a new sheriff in town and he's not sorry for swinging his big orange cock.

The GDP commitment is not "to" NATO, it's a commitment these nations will build up their own militaries so: a) the USA won't have to shoulder so much of Europe's defense; and, b) they will be in a position to "contribute" more men/material for NATO operations (thus, lessening the U.S.'s).

It will also force these countries to decide how much of a welfare state they wish to be.

Exactly...the US’s support allows lots of countries to have welfare programs. Not the least of which is Canada’s shitty healthcare system.

Nope, not really. We just pull troops home at an alarming pace. Not only would they pay, they would back pay.

Trump is going to get that gas deal or we walk. Just watch

That is the semantic trick.

Trump says "agreed to increase spending". That involves increasing TO the "previous target". The media asks "are you really agreeing to spend MORE than the previous amount?" It is a false narrative.

But it let's the media pretend Trump is lying and the other leaders are pushing back.
