That too. However, if an actual radical like Wilford Carter was on the ballot, they would have voted for Hunter 100%. The point being made is that Marshall isn't some radical like this thread is trying to paint him. And as for the future, there's no guarantee that there will be a moderate candidate like him to challenge the Republicans in the future

I live in Monroe and we have Black and White mayors. Blacks get just as pissed at the Black mayors as they do the whites.

I think the PAC that got involved is the real reason. Low voter turnout plus an aggressive campaign against the mayor to get a Democrat in office.

I've seen comments that the city is 50/50 white and black. Has there ever been a push to annex the residential areas south of the city limits?

Well I talked to several people in LC and none of them but my sister voted.
A bunch were not in town. Vacation or Baseball and didn't bother to vote early.
They have acted surprised...
I'd say out of a dozen or so I asked.
1 voted.
Half were out of town
The others forgot or just didn't think it mattered and Hunter was a sure thing.

FYI, they are getting ready to try and annex more of South LC, which is predominantly white. They are running city water and sewer along Gauthier Rd and everything in that area in preparation. In other words, there will be a lot more white voters in city limits soon.
