For some reason, mine hasn't come for a week, and it's the rare time I'm actually waiting for something.

Except the proclamation was made on January 1st two years before Juneteenth. And the 13th was ratified six months after Juneteenth. It's odd to elevate a local Texas holiday to federal status, no?
The celebration is of actual, practical emancipation - not nominal emancipation.

Oh, so then you agree that it definitely needs to be based on the ratification of the 13th in December 1865, considering the Emancipation Proclamation did nothing whatsoever for most slaves in the United States.

In your view June 19th should be holiday because that’s when a very tiny portion of slaves in one region of Texas learned that the Civil War had ended?

ETA: I fully support having a national holiday to recognize the abolition of slavery. The arguments for making it June 19th specifically just happen to be really stupid.

Lol, they literally just made it up. Gonna be nothing more than a racial white guilt/hate whitey day. The republican party is worthless.

So, the worthless inefficient Federal Government system gets another Holiday off the public's backs .....They should work 12 hour shifts until they get things done right ...instead of frikkin off at home.

Guess every Federal Employee will roast a black face to celebrate over the weekend.

It is my understanding that the news of the EP didn’t get to south Texas until June 19, hence that being the date chosen.

Why would we celebrate the day that one small amount of people in South Texas learned that the war is over?

Why would we not celebrate the day that slavery was actually abolished, which was many months later? There were still slaves in the United States after June 19, 1865

VP Harris emphasized 3 or 4 times that slaves were held for 2 years past being freed.

Seems to bury the lead that slavery is wrong

So is this going to be a good federal holiday like Labor Day, or one of the crappy ones that we don't get off work but still don't get mail like President's Day?

Who is we? If you're a federal employee you get off all federal holidays. Otherwise you're at the mercy of your particular employer.

For Texas. I know what it is. That's my point. Those weren't the first or last slaves that were freed.

It's like celebrating Independence Day in May just because that's when Rhode Island declared it.

I answered this already.

This I cannot definitively answer. It is my understanding that is is based on the last newspaper of record (Galveston?) being notified. You make valid points though.

I’m not married to the date. If the black community landed on June 19th...cool beans.

Again, celebrating the EP (on whatever date...arbitrary or not) is not something I have an issue with.

To be clear...

I hate the bullshite construct that is CRT.

I have been outspoken about LSU and their new President (Mr. CRT himself).

I despise the “woke supremacy” brigade.

Juneteenth is not something I’m going to complain about.

Just my .02.

So whites can celebrate their July 4th as a holiday, but blacks can't celebrate the day slavery ended?

Contadictory

Good grief man. If you think july 4 is a white holiday, you are willfully living in the wrong country.

It is. Black people were still in chains and being fed pig guts (chitterlings) on July 4th, 1776. That isn't anything for us to celebrate about..
