frick these idiots. I visited my family once in NOVA after getting my first permit. Miss an exit and cross into MD from VA, you're a felon with a permit that's applicable to VA.

National Guardsman arrested in DC for carrying pistol without permit.

An Oklahoma National Guardsman deployed to Washington, D.C. was pulled over for an expired car registration, where police then found a pistol that wasn’t registered in the district. The guardsman was arrested this week and charged with a felony.

Jakob Noonan, 22, was charged Tuesday with carrying a 9mm Canik pistol without a license, according to court records. Noonan told police he was deployed to Washington with his National Guard unit.

“He stated that Oklahoma is an open-carry state and that the firearm was registered to him in Oklahoma. He acknowledged that he did not possess a valid District of Columbia concealed-carry permit,” according to a federal affidavit filed in the Washington, D.C. Superior Court.

Under Washington, D.C. law, carrying a pistol without a permit outside of a home is a felony and carries a penalty of a fine or up to five years in prison.

According to the affidavit, Noonan was originally arrested for carrying a pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition without a permit. The final charges only list the pistol.

The charges came after a Metropolitan Police Department officer pulled Noonan over on Monday for registration that expired in May. During the traffic stop, Noonan informed officers that he had a firearm in his car.

Noonan was arrested Tuesday and brought to the police station. He was out of Washington, D.C. jail custody as of Friday, according to an online inmate search tool.

Department of Defense-released photos from last month identified Noonan as a specialist with the Oklahoma National Guard.

In a statement to Task & Purpose Saturday afternoon, a Joint Task Force-District of Columbia spokesperson said that the task force was aware of the arrest of a service member assigned to it.

“JTF-DC service members are expected to maintain high standards of professionalism and conduct at all times. This matter will be addressed in accordance with established policies and procedures,” the spokesperson said, directing questions to the Metropolitan Police Department.

More than 3,000 National Guard troops remain deployed to the nation’s capital as part of an August 2025 mobilization ordered by President Donald Trump. Trump cited crime prevention as the basis of mobilization, though crime in the city was at a 30-year low before Trump took office, and the guard patrols have mostly kept to low-crime, tourist-heavy areas in the city with little impact on crime.

According to JTF-DC, as of mid-September, 56 Oklahoma guardsmen are part of the Washington, D.C. mission.

Massie makes a plea for sanity from liberals in DC.
But yeah, this sentencing carries a lot of weight. Including removal of the 2a rights of this man serving his country.
This goes way beyond just holding a grudge against men serving under orders from our president.

I hope this case makes it to SCOTUS.
This could be a great case for national reciprocity.

I can understand not having any right to carry a personal weapon without WH /SS, maybe similar even around certain state buildings, but not having the 2nd amendment rights being called on against a military based position transferred by orders into a different city seems wrong but that’s just me. But having a conservative leadership position arguing for it is a big deal

Amen...but there is also the fundamental 2nd Amendment argument that can still be made.

If only we had a non corrupt gov't that would uphold the constitution.

I have 2 positions on this.
1) That yes, DC is a tyrant area. Depriving citizens in it's jurisdiction of their constitutional rights.
2) While I have appreciation for those that are serving our country... I'm sick of eclusions (edit: exclusions, even!) to gun control measures that say "law enforcement and military".
If cops and soldiers can have guns, so can average citizens!

Yes, yes it does say something. I'm glad that Massie took a stand. Hopefully he and/or others can pressure DOJ into pressuring DC into dropping charges.
Hopeful, but not expecting. But then too I don't know how well Jenine cooperates with DOJ.

Absolutely!
Constitutional, no permit, no permission, no requirement carry is the right to bear arms. With that, repipeocity is not needed.

Yeah, I've agreed with a lot of her very straightforward, very blunt opinions.
And I think she has actively fought For having the troops being put in DC by 47. (maybe I'm misunderstanding that?)
Maybe it's guns?
Kinda confusing to me where she's coming from on that clip. I really wish they'd have played more of what she'd said and what lead to the comment.

Are you saying, in America, there can be no citizen observation of polling stations? How can it be illegal for citizens to observe?

SCOTUS has already pushed back on things similar to this in prior rulings (as recent as Lopez). While one of the main themes has been that government maintains the right to ban firearms on government property (courthouses, post offices, etc), the other part of that theme is that they've pushed back on what restrictions government can make on non-government property or public properties not directly for government use (I would think roadways would fall under this).

Yes. NY and a few other states have been pushing too far across the line on gun free zones. Essentially trying to make most of the state, or most city area a GFZ. Without outright ban.
What got this poor guy tho, is that his home state has constitutional carry. And DC are pricks. Have to have a permit to carry. Even though they found him separate from the Canik, he was still wearing the holster, which they used against him as carrying without a permit.

Ok. What I'm digging into really makes it look like the message is disingenuous as hell from the media.
They're portraying this as him carrying the gun was what was illegal. Digging, it looks a lot more like he got busted under travel laws (which is still bs!)

quote:

(b)(1) If the transportation of the firearm is by a vehicle, the firearm shall be unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported shall be readily accessible or directly accessible from the passenger compartment of the transporting vehicle.

(2) If the transporting vehicle does not have a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment, the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console, and the firearm shall be unloaded.

(c) If the transportation of the firearm is in a manner other than in a vehicle, the firearm shall be:

(1) Unloaded;

(2) Inside a locked container; and

(3) Separate from any ammunition.
