This is a local funded library system. This should go to the state courts first.

I agree with your post because removing a book from a state funded library is a state issue not federal. I have to assume the county got fed money to help fund. Otherwise... muh... no jurisdiction

So would you be okay with homosexual pornography in the children's section? Because that's what a lot of these books amount to.

Banning books that teach toddlers to perform sexual acts is "pearl clutching" to you? Tell me you're a pedophile without telling me you're a pedophile.

According to Gen Z there are something approaching 100 genders too. Why do I care what Gen Z thinks? The eyes of the populous, wherever this library is, thinks that certain books are inappropriate. Their eyes don't count?

If certain books are voted on are not carried then so be it but we are talking about a public space. If it is that big on an issue for you and your kid then why not stop them from going?

I certainly would. My kids are grown, but if they stick NAMBLA literature, or Penthouse in my public library, you can bet your last dollar my grandchildren won't be going there. Thankfully, the vast majority of the people around here aren't deviants, and would never accept inappropriate shite being available to kids.

I'm not arguing that there isn't a bigger problem but banning books is just putting your finger in a hole in a dam.

No, it's doing what little can be done to keep kids from being exposed to material their parents and the community at large deems inappropriate. If you are into deviant and abnormal behavior for your minors, I'm sure you can order up all you want. Hell, with a little effort I could send you a reading list for your future little blue hair.

Said every parent ever. This has been said about rock-n-roll, tv, etc.

Right, because rock-n-roll and explicit deviant sex is exactly the same thing.

Perhaps you could put age restrictions on those books. Follow that with a talk with the library employees about what to spend scarce tax dollars on. Eventually certain books are checked out and not returned by a Mister Chuck U Farley. Another damned boating accident.

I’ve never heard of federally mandated book list.

Put that shite in the parenting section. If adults want their kids to read it, sucks to be them but ok. Don't need seed planting books at eye level in kids section. I see this shite every time I'm in kids section and am hardly even looking.

this whole banning books is just dumb. Parents give 10yr olds iphones. Kids these days have access to everything they could ever want to see on the internet and we are aruging over books that can be checked out at libraries. Just be an active parent in your childs life. pay attention to what the look at and what the read. Libraries are the problem parents are.

Because you are advocating setting up a premise to be used against you in the future.

Do you even know why stuff like Penthouse isn't allowed in a public library?

Wouldn't doing the little things include avoiding it first? You can hide your kids from the world but the world will not hide from your kids.
quote:

The fact is I'm not disagreeing with you that they probably shouldn't be in there but your approach is bad. You've resorted to insults which means you feel as though you are losing this argument. You know once you start banning books based on personal preferences and not an agreed upon set of standards that it will not go well for Republicans in the future. You can't jump up and down and scream the left is authoritarian when you want to do the same thing.
quote:

Right, because rock-n-roll and explicit deviant sex is exactly the same thing.

To them it was. Do you not remember all of the shite with Elvis? People that were going to his concerts didn't think there was anything wrong with it but the parents were outraged. Now fast-forward to today and look at it through the eyes of Gen Z. Banning this shite will only make them cry harder for it.

The correct approach would be to solve the problem of why people think its acceptable but for whatever reasons you older Republicans can't be proactive but reactive. And you wonder why you are losing the culture war.

I feel like this drama around public libraries is like getting upset over 900 numbers on rotary phones.

While you aren't wrong, you do need to be aware of how very little the vast majority of parents are involved in their kids education. Wife has been a teacher for a long time, and she says you can spot the kids who have involved parents from a mile away. And it's not always what you think. My wife has attended her school's honors banquet as a stand-in parent after being asked by several kids over the years. It makes you angry, and sad.

So unless I fall on the side of absolutely nothing being inappropriate for young children to see, read, and explore, I'm setting up a premise to be used against me in the future? I guess I'll have to live with that. Your terms are acceptable.

Let me guess, because it is inappropriate for children?

How do you go about avoiding something to which you are unaware? Have you scoured your local library for content? Yeah, I haven't either. But I trust the adults in charge there who would never dream of putting a book explaining, illustrating, or advocating deviant sex to a child.

i don't have children, i am very aware of how little a majority of parents are involved in thier kids education. I have friends that have been teachers for 20+ years and have heard them talk about this often. My wife is also a therapist and she deals with these issue when these children become adults and thier parents have totally screwed them up as adults.
