A federal judge on Monday extended a ban on the release of downloadable blueprints for 3D-printed guns, handing a victory to a coalition of states that challenged the online distribution of the instructions.
U.S. District Judge Robert Lasnik granted a preliminary injunction Monday that blocks the publication of the designs for the 3D-printed firearms until the case is resolved

Nothing like prior restraint on free speech

Is that really applicable here?
I'm not agreeing with the decision, but I don't understand this rebuttal.
ETA - Read more about it and it appears prior restraint is the route Defense Distributed argued since computer files are considered speech. Interesting.

This falls under freedom of press, which means we have the right to write/press/draw anything just like we have the right to say anything. We have the right to draw muhammad or guns, that judge is a commie bastard imo

there is no way to stop free transmission of ideas or files any more in this day and age

The judge and coalition of states do seem to be mired in a mid-20th Century mindset regarding information flow.

This.
For people that want to piss and moan about Anthem-kneeling or losing security clearances being First Amendment issues, THIS is what a First Amendment issue looks like: an arm of the government trying to forcefully stop legal speech.

Well, Judges can 'block' whatever they want...but that don't mean they can enforce or stop it, if people want it. Especially if those people that it is their moral right to whatever is termed un-lawful. Think Marijuana. And if the Judges - and their armed Agents of Enforcement - come down hard...so will those who react.
This is fluff. The future is determined by the vision of the folk.
That said - IMHO - we're headed to some form of Authoritarian Governance...any way we cut. Sooner...or later. Freedom is no virtue, minus the security to enjoy it.
