I don't know anything about why he isn't running, but that's ok with me. He tried to sell off LUS in a sort of shady deal. Get pretty far into it before anyone found out that he was even trying to do it. That's enough for me.

That is what I heard too

I don’t think people really cared outside of social media about the story time stuff

We never really found out. He was trying to close the deal with Bernhard without disclosing anything about it. But then it blew up and they requested proposals. Then cancelled the whole idea. It was very squirrely.

I don't think anyone would change mayors over drag queen story time. That didn't interest anywhere near enough people to make a difference.

I guess the social media backlash wasn’t proportionate to most regular people on the story time stuff

No. It wouldn't have hurt him at all. I thought he was overreacting but that wouldn't have swayed my vote at all. If you are counting votes in Lafayette, coming down against drag queen story time would, in all likelihood, result in a net increase in votes. Anyone who says otherwise can't feel the political pulse.

there was a comment in the other thread about deconsolidating the government. Did that actually happen?

I don't know. One of the first things he did was get rid of the speed cameras. He wanted a new deal with a new company, one that would elevate the offenses to being applicable to one's insurance rates, like regular tickets. As famous for kickbacks as speed cameras are, it all just looked like that plus a huge insurance company hookup.

But, it never materialized, and we currently have no speed cameras, so thanks, Joel.

He also presided over the endless Surrey Street bridge construction, which I'm sure was delayed because of budget shortfalls and whatever other various stupid shite always happens in Lafayette. I don't know if it was for shady reasons, but it was a sign that things weren't getting done.
