I just wish he would stay away from politics on his show. I mean I can take a little poking fun at politicians, but the constant bashing of the president night after night is too much. If that’s how it’s going to be, then good riddance!

It just makes you appreciate how great Johnny Carson was. He will never be replaced as the GOAT because he did not pander to one side. Plus, there are too many entertainment options available now to get anywhere nears his numbers.

Plus if you recall, NBC was always alone with the Tonight Show. It wasn’t until Carson was about to retire when other networks were tempted to start a new late night talk franchise. Late night on the networks in the 1970’s were movies and reruns on ABC and CBS, unless the station ran its own syndicated reruns in those slots.
ABC had Nightline that was born out of the Iran Hostage Crisis and was news program. Pat Sajack was one on CBS. Joan Rivers and Chevy Chase at Fox were another few unsuccessful attempts. And in syndication you had Arsenio Hall. Only one that had much success was Arsenio Hall who ran for multiple seasons.
Then when NBC chose Jay Leno over David Letterman to follow Johnny Carson, that shaped the growth in late night talk TV options.
But even then, ABC didn’t join the late night talk crowd with Kimmel until the mid 2000’s after sticking with Nightline for decades as its 10:35 show. It even kept Nightline as the lead into Kimmel early on opting to start Kimmel after Nightline early on. Then when Kimmel showed a slight success in the 2010’s Kimmel got the network to swap Nightline and Kimmel in the hopes of making more money.
Kimmel was always the third horse in the race. Now it can make its only claim to the number two slot show since Colbert is gone.

CBS used to be the most conservative. When Fox out conservatized them they went beyond MSNBC to communism.
