well yeah

Louisiana politicians hate progress. as soon as a more advanced taxation scheme was passed, it was attacked by insider-cronies (like Blanco)

again. sponsored by JBE

these were his tax cuts more than Jindal's, by any definition. trying to turn these into Jindal's while ignoring his role in the repeal is literal propaganda by the leftist groups and media in LA

Stephanie Grace had a great piece about it this weekend. If I get a chance I’ll start a new thread about it.

Are you slow? You had the same damn topic on here in 2016 in which you said that you BELIEVE JBE sponsored the bill. There was not a single nay vote on the repeal, only 2 absentees. The buck stops with the governor and Jindal was the governor. I’m sure you’re used to Jindal’s flip flops. Jindal put our state in a bind. What a good Conservative he was...

he was one of the sponsors

i said earlier that it was veto-proof. that is the only reason Jindal signed it

it wasn't a "Jindal tax cut" it was a "LA legislature tax cut"

quote:

The buck stops with the governor and Jindal was the governor.

and they had a veto-proof majority so it was out of his hands. what would you have him do? waste everyone's time and the public's money?

i never voted for Jindal and was one of the first people on here to explain to GOP posters that he wasn't nearly as good as his hype

First off total spending at LSU has not declined.

There is a lot of fat still in overhead at LSU.

But send them where you want.

You obviously don't care if there is any TOPS so you should favor eliminating TOPS so other cuts are not made.

When all agencies other than Higher Ed and Hospitals agree to put their budgets on the cutting line. Don't hold your breath.

Remember ANY spending he does not propose to cut has priority in his mind over the spending he does cut.

So when he proposes the cuts to higher ed and health care and says cutting spending will end LSU football and kill people and he does not propose ending film welfare know he supports filmmakers over LSU and sick people.

That's what many don't seem to understand. When cuts have to be made the logical thing to do is cut the ones that aren't necessary.

Edwards will close a hospital before he cuts out film tax credits, or changes the nursing home rules to be in line with the other states.

Ok where are you going to send them for less money??? No where will be cheaper than instate tuition at a Louisiana institution without TOPS

If grades and test scores are good enough, you can send a kid to Alabama (out of state) for cheaper than LSU with full TOPS. That's the case with a number of other schools.

I have a senior who is trying to make his college decision. It's not so much TOPS for me, but the outright refusal to fund higher ed that has me troubled. My kid already has nice scholarship offers from 3 other SEC schools. If TOPS is eliminated and more cuts are made to higher ed, I will tell him he is not going to LSU. And my wife and I both have 2 degrees from LSU. It will break my heart, but I'm not sending my kid into that uncertainty.

Mine is a junior. Same boat.

And what's wrong with that? Isn't it every family's decision as to where the student wants to attend college?

The notion that if we educate them at LSU or at another state school makes it likely that they will stay in La. doesn't add up. Is there any evidence that TOPS has stopped the so-called brain drain and that La. university graduates are staying in La. to work in larger numbers?

Add all of the Texas 4-year colleges to that as well.

So other states entice the better students with scholarships while La. gives scholarships to just about any student, right? Wrong?

Books and Supplies $1,200
Other Expenses $4,120

That is Alabama so I cal BS on your post.

Oh if you have "good enough" grades you can go anywhere on scholarship.

Note the people of Alabama have no TOPS. If they can do without it so can we.

quote:

Cost of Attendance In-state: $29,704 Out-of-state: $46,381
Tuition and Fees In-state: $11,374 Out-of-state: $28,051
Room and Board $11,750
Books and Supplies $1,160
Other Expenses $5,420

You can see the difference between UA and LSU is no where near the amount of TOPS

Any in state student.

But yes.

Minimum requirements to get and keep TOPS wont get you into LSU.

Tops paid for all but $400.00 of my daughter's education at LSU. She was a double gold medalist in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering.

After graduating, she had 9 job interviews. NONE WERE IN THE STATE OF LOUISIANA. She took a job in Dallas.

You tell me if the state invested wisely.

Exactly. Everybody worth a shite jumps ship as soon as they graduate. I know of dozens of people I graduated with who left the state after TOPS paid for everything. They are all accountants, engineers, etc. The retards stay out and make the problem worse.

LSU spends a ridiculous amount of money each year paying hundreds of do nothing retards to sit at a desk all day. They have more fat than anything.
