Really?

Oh well, now they have one patrolling the surface, and one patrolling the sea floor.

Let's not forget the Philippines and Taiwan (and the fact that Vietnam is very leery of China too). China sure has surrounded itself with enemies. Their only friend in the region seems to be North Korea, but they can't project any power. The best that they can do is to neutralize South Korea.

Japan has a history of being more than just a thorn in China's side. They have committed an atrocity or two on Chinese soil.

China's reaction is going to be dramatic to say the least.

This is huge for a number of reasons but the biggest is finally some of our allies are starting to rearm and develop their own capabilities instead of just relying on us. Now if the Germans and some of our other European "allies" would follow suit..

Sad to see how far the Royal Navy has dropped off, post-WW2.

In all fairness to the RN, the Empire doesn't exist anymore so there is no need for a huge Royal Navy. On the other hand if you count the navies of the Commonwealth there are still a lot of Brit influenced ships out there.

And given that for the most part none of the Commonwealth nations are exactly friendly to China, the PRC has a serious fleet disadvantage.

China can rattle all the bamboo sabers they want but they well realize that a naval war is a serious loser for them.

Agreed - I also think Japan will make better decisions if they’re responsible for their own defence.

Germany for example gets to pursue a much softer foreign policy, and they get to stand on virtue, because we’re there to defend them.

They don’t have to be responsible for themselves.

Izumo isn’t an original name either. IJN Izumo was an older training cruiser in WWII that was sunk in 1945.

Excuse my ignorance but i was still under the impression that Japan didn’t have a military. When did this come about? Lol

Japan has a well funded and highly developed "self defense force". We have gradually relaxed many of the post WW2 armament restrictions. Basically they have a force that is named such, as a euphemism for military. They can frick people's world up if necessary.

They are highly capable, and soon to be more so, it seems.

This is a good buffer against China.

You guys are foolish to want Japan to rearm. I don't trust any Asian country. Once they get started they are like a wasp nest.

China is a big Korea. We fricked up letting the Chinese in the ball game. MacArthur was right. We should have kept going.
