USS Ronald Reagan and IJN Izumo:
USMC Fighters will be the first fixed wing aircraft to launch from the newly capable Japanese Carriers
The last time the USMC landed something on a Japnese Carrier named Kaga, it was a 1000 lb dive bomb at Midway. The IJN Kaga was also one of the carriers that hit Pearl Harbor
The last IJN Izumo was sunk by US forces at Kuro in 1945

The conversion to accept fixed-wing aircraft will provide Izumo and Kaga increased interoperability with allies. As aircraft carriers, they would be able to support not only Japanese F-35Bs, but also American F-35Bs and V-22 Ospreys. During a meeting on March 26, 2019 with General Robert Neller, Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, the Japanese government asked for guidance and advice on how to best operate F-35Bs from the decks of the future carriers; General Neller said that he would, "help as much as possible."

I don't think we are in danger of the Japs pulling the shite they did in ww2 again.
It is a good idea to let them arm up and help to regionally buffer against chicoms

If we really want to put China in check, we should let Japan re-arm

So who did in the Bonhomme Richard? And how? Same type of ship and mission.

Let the Japs be a thorn in China's side.

South Korea needs a few of those too. If we can get Japan, SK, and India armed up, we can keep China boxed-in reasonably well.

The Japanese Navy is the 4th largest in the world.

And probably, man for man, much better than the Russian or Chinese navy.

Sad to see how far the Royal Navy has dropped off, post-WW2.

War is indeed on distant horizon, and I worry for my children. But at least Japan will be on our side this time!

Just don't name any of them Hiryu, Soryu, Kaga, or Akagi and we'll be fine.

A step in the right direction.
Japan has been ride-or-die with us for quite a while now. This is a very geopolitically, military strategic move.
Japan won't Pearl Harbor us again. I say let them arm to the teeth and respond aggressively to threats. Japan knows China is assho.
