This is definitely not in America’s interest. This would result in a failed state situation and governance by warlord. The result would be a spinoff of massive amounts of terrorism. This would threaten the stability of the entire Middle East. Oil prices would soar and a recession would occur in America and the rest of the world.
Trump knows better than to do something like this out of frustration. Instead, he will apply enough military pressure to force regime change in Iran, while leaving their economic capabilities intact. That regime change might be an obvious overthrow of the IRGC, or it could be a new leadership of the IRGC that is chastened and governs without an aggressive Islamic mindset.
