Luckily I still believe in forgiveness

I neither seek, nor require your forgiveness, but if you understood this basic concept, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

You do you, baw. Just don't pretend that since you want to believe there aren't established sources from within your own religion that entirely refute your argument which have been stated and restated myriad times throughout history, that this means it simply isn't so.

quote:

In the Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, we read:

Q. Which is the Sabbath day?
A. Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Q. Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
A. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea, (AD 336) transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday….

Q. Why did the Catholic Church substitute Sunday for Saturday?
A. The Church substituted Sunday for Saturday, because Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday, and the Holy Ghost descended upon the Apostles on a Sunday.

Q. By what authority did the Church substitute Sunday for Saturday?
A. The Church substituted Sunday for Saturday by the plenitude of that divine power which Jesus Christ bestowed upon her!
—Rev. Peter Geiermann, C.SS.R., (1946), p. 50.

quote:

In Catholic Christian Instructed,

Q. Has the [Catholic] church power to make any alterations in the commandments of God?
A. ...Instead of the seventh day, and other festivals appointed by the old law, the church has prescribed the Sundays and holy days to be set apart for God’s worship; and these we are now obliged to keep in consequence of God’s commandment, instead of the ancient Sabbath.
The Catholic Christian Instructed in the Sacraments, Sacrifices, Ceremonies, and Observances of the Church By Way of Question and Answer, RT Rev. Dr. Challoner, p. 204.

quote:

In An Abridgment of the Christian Doctrine,

Q. How prove you that the church hath power to command feasts and holy days?
A. By the very act of changing the Sabbath into Sunday, which Protestants allow of; and therefore they fondly contradict themselves, by keeping Sunday strictly, and breaking most other feasts commanded by the same church.

Q. How prove you that?
A. Because by keeping Sunday, they acknowledge the church’s power to ordain feasts, and to command them under sin; and by not keeping the rest [of the feasts] by her commanded, they again deny, in fact, the same power.
–Rev. Henry Tuberville, D.D. (R.C.), (1833), page 58.

quote:

In A Doctrinal Catechism,
Q. Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?
A. Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her. She could not have substituted the observance of Sunday the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority.
–Rev. Stephen Keenan, (1851), p. 174.

quote:

In the Catechism of the Council of Trent,
The Church of God has thought it well to transfer the celebration and observance of the Sabbath to Sunday!
–p 402, second revised edition (English), 1937. (First published in 1566)

quote:

In the Augsburg Confession,
They [the Catholics] allege the Sabbath changed into Sunday, the Lord’s day, contrary to the decalogue, as it appears; neither is there any example more boasted of than the changing of the Sabbath day. Great, they say, is the power and authority of the church, since it dispensed with one of the ten commandments.
—Art. 28.

quote:

“It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.” Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903.

"Protestants ... accept Sunday rather than Saturday as the day for public worship after the Catholic Church made the change... But the Protestant mind does not seem to realize that ... in observing Sunday, they are accepting the authority of the spokesman for the Church, the pope." Our Sunday Visitor, February 5th, 1950.

“Of course these two old quotations are exactly correct. The Catholic Church designated Sunday as the day for corporate worship and gets full credit – or blame – for the change.” This Rock, The Magazine of Catholic Apologetics and Evangelization, p.8, June 1997

I wasn’t offering you forgiveness - why would I? What transgression gave you done?

Dude, sometimes I wonder about your reading and comprehension skills - you were talking about my idol worship in praying the Rosary - I responded that luckily I believe in forgiveness - I said this bc if it is wrong of me to say the Rosary (which I do not believe it is because I am asking Our Lord’s Mother to help me get closer to Him) - then I think God will forgive me for this goof up (if it even is one - which I do not believe it is - The Holy Trinity is still at the heart of the prayer - so there is no ‘idol’ worship)

As for the sources you provided - good stuff - but do we forget that Jesus gave the authority to run his church to Simon Peter, who in turn also appointed successors and so on - changes were made in the early Church in good faith by the church fathers - for whatever reason - but there is a reason - not just to exercise authority which is what your first argument was

It’s not too hard of a stretch - new covenant with God - new Sabbath - it wasn’t necessary but it does celebrate the day Jesus conquered evil and when the Apostles (who Jesus appointed as his successors) were given the gift of the Holy Spirit

Besides - these early church fathers that you despise for changing the ‘Sabbath’ - aren’t they the ones that put the Bible together that you are so utterly fond of? So you can accept their books of the Bible they chose to spread the word of God, but everything else they did was null?

In the end, you and I are on the same side - we both have to strive to keep the ability to practice what we believe in - which may be on the line in this election and for sure it will be in the future. Our Savior is Jesus, the world’s Savior is Jesus, and He is our destination despite the different vehicles we use to get there.

I am not angry or upset and I giggled at the Rosary rattler comment because despite our differences, I believe we are all one family. If trying times are ahead, we may have to stick together.

Jesus doesn't like false accusers. Just some private wisdom for someone that proved they are not so wise in public.

Don’t really care because the Lord is in control, whether we perceive that person as the correct person or not.

Daniel 2:21

quote:

And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

Pray that the Lord’s will be done. As a believer and his child, I know I am under his divine protection and guidance, whatever comes.

Jesus didn’t instruct his disciples in a way to regard kings or rulers because it doesn’t matter who is in charge, the Lord is still the same and your eyes should be fixed on Him. Fulfill your duties to the State, focus on His Will.

I sleep very well at night knowing that.

Jesus would not vote. But, if we asked him who to vote for I'm guessing he would steer us away from the party that takes God out of their platform and bashes judges for being too righteous.

That's without even getting into actual policies.

Exactly correct. The sabbath wasn't meant to be a burden, but a blessing. It is still a command to rest on it (except in doing good, like helping a stranded vehicle, or people in the medical profession, etc.) Trust me, I never observed the sabbath until I was in my twenties. It's a wonderful thing that has enriched my life!

You are fully impaired.

Trump doesn't value anyone as much as he values himself. And his psychological makeup renders him incapable of having genuine compassion for anyone.
