It's going to "get ugly" for the US taxpayer. The United States of America already has plans to pay to rebuild Ukraine. The USA is starting of with a pledge to rebuild Ukraine's electric power grid.

You are making this up. Europeans are going to have to face a little discomfort by way of being chilly. That is a far cry from freezing to death. They will have to set their thermostats about 2 degrees F lower than my wife and I set it for comfort.
Don’t get me wrong, their policies have been stupid, and even they recognize that now. But the narrative that they will freeze to death is silly.
