Was starting to look like they had maybe hit a peak but that's their worst day so far.

Edited title to change from 919 to 969. Apparently it was updated.

How badly this is hitting Italy is pretty baffling. Its worse than than anywhere as far as death go.

I mean I don't believe china's numbers but still.

It won't be long before we start hitting 900+ daily deaths.

I read some article from Lombardy where officials said they think theyre still on a downswing and the recent spikes were backlogged tests on dead people they couldnt do due to capacity

I dunno how accurate that is though

I could see that being possible

Apparently some Italian citizens complained of corpses in their homes that no one would pick up for days

I don't think we're close to that yet and not sure if we'll ever hit that but I do think we'll have a more prolonged steady death toll

And if that happens you'll be giddy about it. Sick.

Even if we do hit the 900 daily number at some point I don't think we'll ever get anywhere near close to the mortality rate of Italy. It's absurd. Only Spain is close.

I'm optimistic enough to say this is unlikely.

Bet you won't hear any news outlets repeat the claims that Italy has "the best healthcare system in the world" anytime soon.

When did I say I was hopping for it. This is a very large country. It's just math. New York alone will be averaging close to 450+ by the end of next week and Louisiana close to 200. It's not that hard to get to 900+ average.

Not with our health system and countermeasures in place. Death toll will be less than 10k.

We’ll have to hit ~5000 deaths per day to match Italy’s death rate per capita.

No health system can help old people with preexisting conditions being attacked by a virus that literally destroys all the cells in your lungs that we do not have a cure for.

Hot take. But keeping the virus from spreading to them does.

Just an FYI, at the current growth rate, we're about 5 days away from 900 deaths a day.

So I guess it depends on the definition of close.

Heavy Chinese population per capita that traveled back and forth for New Years combined with old population of heavy drinkers and smokers is all I've got. And a cold climate.
