Any Republicans here have any thoughts on this? Anyone?
I' not sure there ARE any Republicans on this board, D. Most of us dumped their arses, labeled them as RINOS, and moved on toward getting rid of em'.
And what will constitute a successful investigation. Easy. OBJECTIVE FACTS...out in full view, so that they tiny swing voters in the electorate that still believe the Obama/HILLARY lies...can know what they are voting on. No more 'pass it to see what's in it'...or "you can keep your doctor".....or..."Benghazi was caused by a video".
Bottom line. We want to hang the TRUTH of their actions and consequences right around their necks like a dead albatross. Purely political. To run this bunch out of town so we can get out Nation back on the road to prosperity, and security. Before something really bad comes down.
Not rocket science. Just politics. Beats the hell out of civil war though; like a lot of this World is engaging in.

because there were definitely people at the compound that night citing the video/insult to Mohammad.

That just might be the most intelligent thing Rex has ever uttered.
He's going thru some health issues, and reverted to solid trolls in the interim.
Still leagues of intellectual difference between Rex or Decatur vs someone like Spidy.

There is not a scintilla of evidence those "people at the compound" were ACTUALLY at the compound.
Explain what you mean by "evidence" because there were definitely people at the compound that night citing the video/insult to Mohammad.
The people appearing in those videos were part of the large group of curiosity seekers who engulfed the compound after all combatants on either side had departed. Same with "journalists". They were not part of the group that attacked either facility. It's completely ridiculous, completely absurd, to give credence to what some guy says hours later at the scene about the cause for the attack when he wasn't even there before or during the attack. Larry Libyan and Bernie Benghazi wander down to check things out and are asked about an anti-Muslim video and they say "oh, very bad, very bad - will this be on youtube? Is my fricking headgear on straight? How's my breath?" Geezus, please ....

We need to have an expectations thread at some point. Let's put everyone on record as to what they're expecting and what will constitute a "successful" investigation.
I'm expecting Under Secretary of State Patrick Kennedy to be the principal fall guy, with everyone pointing fingers at him from all sides, for his actions before, during and after the September 11, 2012 events in Benghazi.
The personification of the term "sacrificial lamb".
The assumption is that, as the ultimate team player, he will fall on the sword, rather than defend himself with it.

If you'd like to provide other evidence of what people were talking about there that night I'd welcome it

That's the point. None of the attackers were hanging around giving interviews in the middle of the night. They had long since vacated the compound before the gawkers gathered.
Posted on 5/12/14 at 7:05 pm to NHTIGER
And would you consider that to be the result of a successful investigation?
Posted on 5/12/14 at 7:11 pm to NHTIGER
It just seems to me that everyone in Benghazi understood the attack to have a relation to the video. That was certainly the popular understanding there. It's not to say some the individual attackers could have had different motivations though. It's believed that the largest component of the attackers were Ansar al Sharia members, and AaS was blaming the events on the video the next day.
The IC still believes the timing of the assault was influenced by the events in Cairo, which all media orgs that day were reporting that the Cairo protests involved the video.

Sorry, but I feel you're speaking with prejudice (as you tend to do on these Benghazi matters), and merely assuming what you wish to believe.
Have you heard the name Mohamed Bishari?
eta: Also, in your "list of facts" thread about Benghazi, did you include the name Mohamed Bishari?

I don't think you want to go there.
But please do. Call everyone's attention to his name. I'll wait.

I already have.
You might include Suleiman El Dressi and Hadeel Al-Shalchi in your response, too.

Google is your friend; more people should use it. But Mr. Bashiri made his appearance on this board shortly after the attacks... and for some reason he's still being ignored by the Benghazi Blame Gamers.

"Attack no protest, consulate owner says"
McClatchy Newspapers
Updated 11:37 pm, Wednesday, September 12, 2012
"Benghazi, --
Libya - The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other American officials died in a coordinated assault on the U.S. Consulate by gunmen firing assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades and carrying the black flag of an Islamic extremist group, the property's landlord said Wednesday."
"Standing outside the fire-gutted compound, Mohammad al-Bishari denied the attack began as a protest against an amateurish U.S.-made video mocking the prophet Muhammad, founder of the Islamic faith."
"Al-Bishari said the attack began with assailants carrying assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades and the black flag of Ansar al Sharia - The Partisans of Sharia - moving from two directions against the compound, which is made up of a main building and a number of smaller ones.
"Whatever they didn't loot, they burned," he said."
"U.S. officials corroborated much of al-Bishari's account "
