I'll answer it this way: Bob is conflicted as hell and needs to either recuse himself, be fired, or jailed for his crimes

In all seriousness, he is leading up an investigation on President Trump that is all involving of the FBI which he has a history with. A quite involved history at that. The whole of this investigation is obviously related to information gathered or accepted by the FBI to gain illegal surveillance on a political party. My thoughts are this should be as intended to be, an independent investigation. Where am I wrong?

100%.
No question.

The more salient question, unfortunately, is the one James Comey stuck in our face . . . "Who cares?"

I know right. The sadder part and hardest to overcome is the public's acceptance of these remarks and in fact applauding of them. The hate from the left side of politic is really strange. Through all the things our country has been in for the last sixty years, I cannot understand how his level of hate for one man could be so prevalent. Vietnam, Civil Rights, garnered less than what I am seeing from the people in our country.

I find this fact to be the most important in allowing the conflict of interest to stay and moreover, be supported and justified by the ends.

is this what the conflict of interest argument is built on?

(eta: that's a serious question and i don't intend to argue it regardless of the answer. i just want clarity on the conflict)

Malicious prosecution?
Downplaying or ignoring evidence that weakens his "investigation"?

Exactly. Not a peep out of him or Sessions. Sessions had the fake excuse of not commenting on an ongoing case. But since he's been gone...not a peek. Zero "reporters" are even looking in his direction with curiosity.

Odd.
