I’m no expert, but I’ve been studying the pricing system a bit.... and it pretty much seems like a bunch of bullshite that was made to be as confusing as possible so they can charge more $$ to customers.

It makes sense why they don’t want price transparency because it would expose how corrupt the system is.

Yes and no. The prices are ridiculously high for Americans partly because we subsidize other countries getting it cheap.

The bigger issue is the entire research industry is a scam. Prices are inflated at every level from buying a tip for a pipettor to reagents that cost nothing to produce and are marked up to the salaries paid to some of these people in bit the research and business sides.

Those costs add up into the end cost, so it’s not just a pharma scam. It’s a scam at every level and eve academic research is a scam.

there's a lot of games being played by the industry.

Example Medicare Part D. I can get a lot cheaper price if I tell the drug store I don't have insurance than if I go through their pricing system. Their seems to be a collaboration between the the insurance companies and drug companies. Actual the real collusion is between the formulary or intermediate (such as Caremark) and the insurance companies.

In the whole supply/pay chain the big money is made by the formulary and the insurance company. The drug maker and the drug store make much less. That's why CVS bought Caremark and Express Scripts.

The whole idea is to raise the price to get you to the donut hole quicker so you pay it all.

Yes, its all a scam. The hospital pricing, doctors referral requirements, drug pricing and availability, and insurance. It's all a scam and money grab. I don't blame the medical professionals (doctors/nurses) as much as the rest of the industry though. I get the impression that it's more of the coorporate and pharmaceutical portions of the industry that are robbing us.

Yes.

But. A lot of has to do with trying to recoup monies from the deadbeats, since they can’t kick them to the curb.

It would be like charging more for groceries to people with money if poor people were just allowed to steal off the shelves at will.

Mostly because you have no leverage as an individual.

I will never understand why this idea was ever agreed upon... all it does it hurt patients and lead to hospitalizations/ deaths...

for example.... elderly on fixed income who' been paying let's say $35 a month for a box of insulin.... now gets into the donut hole and must pay $500-600 a box now ... alot of these folks don't have that lying around, so they go without insulin.... i see it every day, and I hate it for these people

I'll try. Transparency in hospital pricing is useless. Example: call the hospital and ask what an MRI of the head is.

They tell you let's say $2,000. But Medicare pays 400. Do you have a Medicare supplement? United Healthcare is 800. BCBS negotiated 650. A smaller 3rd party payer might have negotiated a 900. Call up with no insurance? The price is 2000.

The healthcare people especially home health do whatever is required to keep the government or health insurance companies paying. Lies on top of lies.

Do you understand Medicare fraud and treble damages? Doesn't eliminate fraud and doesn't eliminating up-coding but it's a risky proposition if that's your business model. Plus, you have too many whistleblower opportunities for those working in the back office to do that on the regular.

I can figure it out if I had the information, no need to assume everyone is stupid.

Go to your favorite hospital and find their pricing, and calculate the cost of a catheter ablation with an esophageal echo. It's there.

ETA - I just pulled up the Charge Master for the hospital I use. There were 64,000 items on it.

That's not true , I know that's what Democrats in congress say.

My insurance company is for profit , they aren't going to pay more because of a deadbeat.

Insurance companies get discounts , you can look at an Explanation Of Benefits from your insurance company and it shows the "negotiated" price.

The people who do pay for deadbeats are the people with no insurance that do pay their bills. They get screwed.

Democrat politicians lie to people because they want a single payer system.
