Is it really that controversial to claim that American isn't great now for lots of people?

Why is it wrong when trump says it, but ok when the left brings up income inequality, stagnant wages, police killings of blacks, suppression of marginalized groups, healthcare costs, constantly comparing us to Europe unfavorably, etc, etc to make the claim that America needs to progress?

I feel like its a bit provocative and close-minded to not listen to actual people explain why they may not feel the country is great right now.

You can still believe in America and have faith in its promise, while also believing it can do a lot better.

Also, isn't the claim that "America has always been great"....an absolutely offensive thing to say to black people?

There is no bright line of 'greatness'. IE, America was great in 1885 but slipped under the line in 1889.

But this I know. Europe used to be a lot greater than they are now. We really don't want to follow their lead.

That’s like saying the beach isn’t great for people with skin conditions. It’s still great even if they can’t enjoy it.

It's more of interest because the same group of people who were walking around with American Flag underwear on their foreheads after 9/11 suddenly thought America wasn't great after eight years of a POTUS that essentially emasculated them. The phrase "Make America Great Again" coming off the heels of the first black President is a pretty clear dog whistle. The "who me?!" Routine is getting old.

That sounds more like something you want to believe is true than anything I recognize as actual reality. But, that's basically everything of where folks like you are coming from these days.

Life is better than it’s ever been in existence. This entire thing is stupid, is for stupid people, and stays afloat because of stupid people. Ruin America and we’ll create what it stands for somewhere else. Name and location doesn’t matter.

If a person can't succeed in America, where would he succeed?

If you can't see the correlation between "we are losing the country" memes and Obama I can't help ya.

LSU wins by two scores.

You hear a whistle when you want to hear it.

The phrase "make america great again" has been in use since long before trump, and it doesn't imply anything about a black president. That is you making, imo, an unsubstantiated connection.

This is what I mean, dev. You are all about bipartisanship and respect, but even the campaign slogan of someone you disagree with is deemed racist.

No, it's more like why his mindset will continue losing.

What does it have to do with Obama being black?

And the more he loses, the more he’ll blame it on racism.

Vicious cycle.

Why assume it has to due with his race though?

Why is it so hard for you to grasp that people may have had serious policy differences with Obama that had nothing to do with his race.

Talk about divisive, dude. Going around calling everyone racist is lame.

So a group that was over the top with their flag waving and patriotic signaling had a dramatic transformation in their belief to the point of thinking America is no longer great...over the course of the same eight years that Obama was President. No correlation? The "who me" routine is getting old.
