Is DACA really that big of a deal?

The Democrats seem to be banking on the DACA issue this fall. Are there really a high number of voters that will switch and pull the "D" lever instead of "R" over this issue?
Seems like a lot of people are okay with doing something for them, but otherwise not super passionate about DACA. I mean, aside from a subset of the Democrat base...
Am I wrong?

It's a big deal to people who are or know DACA people that are great people.
It's not a big deal to someone who doesn't know them and doesn't care about their situation.
All Politics are local.

There are some tweaks I’d make to DACA, but overall I think it’s a good thing. 87% of Americans are for it, so I don’t see why this is so controversial.

I don’t think many Americans actually care that much about this. It might have a lot of support but it’s way down the list.

It's only a big deal if you're against Trump. Back in the 1990's democrats were all for strict immigration law enforcement and all for keeping illegals out of this country. Then Trump and the right started agreeing with them and their heads exploded.
Bill Clinton's comments on immigration & Democrats give standing ovation

There are a lot of issues that people care about. DACA is the issue dujour, but I'm not sending that people are willing to change the direction the country is going, over DACA.
It doesn't mean they don't care. I think people realize that this is a political football, and the only reason it hasn't been resolved is because of partisanship.

Correct, but I think it has soft support. These people have been in the country illegally for a long time - long before DACA was implemented. Why the sudden urgency?

It’s not a big deal at all. At least to American citizens. You’d never hear about it if it were not for DC politicians.

Not if you let it expire. After all, it is an unconstitutional decree, issued by a life long, slimy, anti American Communist. It should be allowed to expire.
Just my opinion...others may feel differently.

This is irrelevant.

You're right. It's local. Expanded your statement to not be a one-sided emotional ploy.

It's a GIGANTIC win for Trump politically. It doesn't even matter what happens , he has positioned himself perfectly. It kills Dems nationally, but plays well to their amen corner.

Then the Dems realized that low income Hispanics could be an extremely reliable voting bloc to them, nearly as reliable to vote Dem as black voters.
The Dems are in all for DACA because giving citizenship to a huge number of illegal immigrants would give the Dems a chance to possibly flip red states like Arizona or Texas.

There is no way that 87% of the country is in support of DACA. People who came here legally make up more than 13% of the country and that group says “frick the dreamers” for getting an advantage for breaking the law. Yes, everyone that is over 18 has broken the law be staying in this country illegally.
Why should they be granted legal residency just because they are brown? Meanwhile, to bring my white girlfriend from Europe, I have to spend nearly $10k for her to have the same legal residency. Democrats must be racists.

Wrong.
How do a minority of peoples feeling relate to whether an activity is criminal or not. It's irrelevant.

Yes, this is the type of thing that cost Rome its republic, granting legality to non-citizens. It prompted multiple civil wars and destroyed the republic.
We need to kill DACA and send the people back.

I think about 70% would like to see something done. The red herring here is that nobody says exactly what. If you say, "Let them stay, but don't give them citizenship" and add that to the number of people who want them to have citizenship, you might get 87%, but only if you frame the question as, "These are college graduates who are making great money as doctors and lawyers and paying their taxes and have spouses, children, houses, and love baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet. They have been in the country since they were two years old and have no memory of their home country. Do you want to rip them from their families and send them to a strange country that they don't know?"
There was a CBS poll that came in at 87%, but they don't, of course, give you the exact wording of the question.
I think the real answer is that 70% are willing to let them stay, but I think that number goes down if you let them stay and have a pathway to citizenship.

It should be a case by case basis. If a Dreamer is running a company, employs 60 people, and pays his taxes, I say let him stay, and throw him in the back of the line on the pathway to citizenship. If you’re living on welfare and contributing nothing, then I say we throw your arse out. This is just common sense.
