At one time, back in my day, if you didn't want health insurance you paid a $0 fine and $0 per month in premiums.
I rode this out until I was 26.
When do we see the $2500 per year savings in premiums per family? I see the govt got their take up front.

Wait, so someone who makes 100k is fined 1k? This headline is misleading.

Yep, but you'll still be without health insurance
You might as well be uninsured as have an exchange plan. A lot of those are junk plans with nobody in network.

The bronze plans that obamacare brought to poor people have absolutely jaw-dropping deductibles. What poor sucker has 6 grand lying around ?

Yep. And that'll take forever for poor folks to pay off. Plus if they're running up that much of a medical bill, they're probably missing work for a few weeks or longer, so they don't have the money to keep paying the exorbitant premiums either.

still cheaper than buying health insurance from the exchange.
So you are happy with paying this money to not have insurance?!

If your deductible is $5000 , you practically don't have insurance anyway.

Exactly. These obamacare deductibles are absurd. It makes zero sense to pay premiums on a policy with a 5 or 6 thousand dollar deductible.

A family of 5 will pay $12,240 dollars in penalties - IF their income is $1,224,000+$19,500 (see link below). You make over a million dollars a year and don't buy health insurance for your three children - WTF?

If you ignore the cost of illness and injury - yes.

Come on dude, are you serious?
Do you still have your appendix? I'm guessing you do - otherwise you would already be aware that the average cost of an appendectomy in the U.S. is $33,000. If there are complications that require a hospital stay you're talking double, triple, quadruple that. I know a guy who broke his leg up real bad and needed surgery, he paid 10k for the leg and got a 90k bill for the hospital stay.
You also know, I'm sure - that one of the biggest benefits to having insurance is that your insurer negotiates lower prices. The guy with the 100k bill for a broken leg didn't have insurance - if he had, the total cost would have been 1/3 of that. So when you pay for health insurance you also pay for your deductible amount to go further - the 5k deductible is really like 10-15k in cash to the uninsured because that's the mark-up you'll get if you don't have insurance.

The wreckage of this law is just hitting the surface. There will be a few winners but many more losers. It is unsustainable and will fall on its face. I suspect that is really what the administrations wants since that have said universal coverage is the real goal. This was never intended to help.

No it isn't. You are off by $20k, a non- trivial amount.
quote:
One of the most common surgical procedures is the appendectomy, which removes an inflamed appendix in order to prevent it from bursting. Although a common procedure, an appendectomy costs on average $13,851 across the United States. On the high end, the procedure can cost as much as $29,426.
Also, please cite the pre-ACA cases where people died because they were refused EMERGENCY medical care such as an appendectomy. They should be easy to find.
