I've always wonder what the hell 90% of IRS employees do from probably June through April of the following year? Sharpen pencils, polish their nails, blow the boss?

Not something like it. The Fair Tax plan, as written.

We do not need the IRS.
The country moved along just fine with out them. It's not like our infrastructure is in prestine condition or anything.

Not according to the internal IRS Memo that says all furloughed employees get backpay.
White House thinks differently.
CONgress will approve it all in about 3 weeks and federal workers will have had a month + extra vacation on the taxpayers once again.

And somehow taxes will still be collected.
Don't forget Federal withholdings for Federal Taxes, Social Security, and Medicare. All those are paid by your employer and are more than likely transfered automatically to the Treasury so no mailing a check and hoping they take until after the government shutdown to start cashing checks.

Why are so many of your trying to call the IRS in the first place?
What am I missing here. I have never one time had a need to call that joint.
