Well gee.. I guess they never get any customers and they just stare out the window all day.
People do go to travel agents to get recommendations……. From someone in the actual business who may have experience and valid recommendations.

I don't want to get in some huge argument here, but I lived for nearly a year in Moscow around 2000 and 2001 and having been to about 36 countries and 50 states, I put Russia VERY high on my "must visit" list.
If you like amazing history, impressive architecture, unique but flavorful food, good drinks, beautiful well-dressed women, outstanding summer weather, and interesting conversations... go to St. Petersburg or Moscow~

Your inlaws are communists.

If you are someone who travels internationally and likes to see historic places, then Russia should be on your list.
I understand wanting to go to European countries first, and I would agree. But to count out Russia completely would be a mistake in my opinion.

I just went to Ukraine in November and had a great time. Not sure why it's on your list. And I would also like to go to Russia in the near future.
Some of you guys are lapping up the media propaganda just as badly as the dems. Eastern and Western medias vilify each other but if you actually go to some of these places you'll find that the average citizen thinks much differently and it's just the elites and media in those countries that are responsible for most of the BS you hear about.

Define better? European Russia is not vastly different than the rest of Eastern Europe.
Eastern Europe is a pretty broad definition. Saying that Russia isn't vastly different than the rest of Eastern Europe is like saying that Northern Minnesota and South Florida aren't vastly different.
The areas from the old Ottoman Empire and Roman Empire have a very different feel than the northern areas of Eastern Europe.

Russia historically has a much bigger influence on Europe than you've been led to believe.
The concept of Russia and Eastern Europe being Asiatic, alien and nothing but directly related from Mongol hordes comes from Marquis de Custine, who was a Aristocratic travel writer in the early 1800's. For some reason it became the popularized European vision of Russia and basically defined Russians as "spoiled savages" to most of Western Europe.

Yes I know, I have both been there and looked at a map.

I’d like to visit Russia someday. There’s an enormous state aviation museum outside of Moscow that has all of the cool Soviet aircraft you can possibly imagine. And bribable security guards that will let you go inside them.

Of all the places to visit in the world, Russia seems like an odd choice.
St Petersburg
Moscow
Sochi
Mt Elbrus
Lake Baikal
Kamchatka
Trans-Siberian Railroad
All on my bucket list.

I agree. Went to St. Petersburg and Moscow about ten years ago and it was a fantastic trip. Beautiful women, great architecture (St. Petersburg) and good food.
Growing up during the Cold War and then being in Red Square was so surreal and cool.
The people were great and very friendly. The Russians are no longer our enemies as some like to think. Like others have said, they have more in common with us than many other countries who are allies.

The way the US is going Russia maybe a better place to live with less crime and no BLM or Antifa BS and mostly everyone there knows there are just two sexes.

Great food, very nice people, lots of beautiful places to see.
Saint Petersburg and Moscow are amazing cities too.

Did you remind them that the 'racist' Mercator map is wrong and that Russia really isn't that big after all?

I think Putin does a good job of representing Russians foreign interest. And if we have a problem with Russia, it’s because he stands up for Russia, and does what’s best for Russia.
I wouldn’t say our elites do a good job of representing Americas interests by contrast.
They just rob us blind.

Just because China has an evil government that is destroying the world doesn't mean that I don't want to see the Great Wall of China some day.
Just because Australia is putting its people into concentration camps doesn't mean I don't still dream of someday going into the Outback and seeing Ayers Rock.
Just because tens of thousands of Americans died in Vietnam doesn't mean that I wouldn't be interested in visiting the country some day.
Some people have the ability to separate the current politics of a place from the attractiveness of its tourist and cultural sites.
The Khmer Rouge were awful. I still want to see Angkor Wat.
Brazil harbored Nazis after WWII, but I still want to see Carnival in Rio.
Dubai is essentially a Muslim Theocracy run by slave labor, but I still kinda want to try out the indoor ski resort.

It's a massive country and there are plenty of great places like St. Petersburg.
I mean it's 1/8th the circumference of our planet it's so wide so hard to say the entire place sucks. Kinda like Oregon, Washington and Cali. Don't blame 99% of the area of those states either for all the leftists in the big cities voting the libs in.
Aside from the politics, I personally won't hold grudges against the people there or most any country. By most counts probably less than 25% of them even approve of who runs their country the past 80 years.
