Under no circumstances should he have gotten involved in any cease fire negotiations. He should have demanded their unconditional surrender. And if that means troops in Iran...securing Kharg Island, getting the uranium, keeping the strait open...so be it. Not willing to commit ground troops to utterly defeating the enemy? Then don't start a fricking war.
A cease fire is what you get when you can't win. Exhibit A: Korea.
