Mosaddegh was a strongman, but Iran was moving towards democracy on its own prior to 1953.
The starting point to any starting democracy is a strongman.

Now it could easily go to hell, but Persians are not like Arabs, they have many more centuries of institutions and identity.

"Iranian Americans" voted for the Democrat in the last two elections the only ones I checked. In 2020, by a large margin.
