If ever there was a time I was ok with our government stepping in and enforcing a regime change, now is the time.

Nope. Not our problem. We need to stop meddling in other nations’ affairs. Unless they pose a direct threat to us or our allies, stay out of it. Keep killing off terrorists and stop trying to set up a new government in a country that literally hates everything we stand for.

Iran does pose a direct threat to our allies. They're a major geopolitical foe. There is a massive resistance movement on the verge of overthrowing that government. With Saudi Arabia cracking down on funders of terrorism and purging corrupt Wahhabists from their government, getting the Mullah's out of power in Iran would have a domino effect across the region. We could be seeing the end of state Islamism across the Middle East. Without backing from Iran, Hezbollah, the Houthis, Fatah, Hammas, and Bashar Assad are cut off from their main financial and military backers.

It would be a massive win for us to remove one the largest regional player opposed to us.

Plus, opening Iran back up to greater trade with the west would be a huge windfall for both sides. Buying power and jobs for Iranians would increase and Western companies would have greater access to Iranian markets (a relatively well developed nation of 80 million people).

Exactly. The people of Iran don't hate us, their leaders do. We have a chance to help the people oust those leaders.

Yes, because that's worked before Iran.

If it takes more than a few nasty tweets, you can count Trump out.

Speaking on behalf of anyone with a working knowledge of the middle east, frick our "allies" in the region.

There wasn't massive public outcry against the democratically elected government the British ousted to prop up the Shah.

The Shah was highly unpopular for being a British puppet, so the people revolted (backed by Russia). The new regime soon cracked down on dissent, and every time protests have broken out, they have mowed those protesters down with tanks.

This isn't the same situation.

It wasn't just the British.

A lot of anti-US sentiment in the region stems from 1953.

I would love a Westernized Iran. Iran should be the hegemonic power of the Middle East. But our meddling would only backfire like it has time and time before.

Why can't the Jews do it, instead of the USA? Sounds like Iran is their problem to me.

Jews can't hit Iranian targets with their air force without flying over Saudi Air Space, something that up until recently, there was zero chance of ever getting approved.

The U.S. can hit Iranian targets from our Naval base in Bahrain.

However, considering that report from earlier this week about a joint U.S./Saudi/Israeli plan to counter Iran, I'd guess they have something up their sleeves to capitalize on these protests. The timing is just too convenient.

After the Iraq debacle I tend to agree, then only way we get involved in another ME country is if some of the surrounding countries are ready to share the greater burden of military intervention, and it won't be the US instigating the intervention.

This is a problem for the new gulf alliance to take care of themselves. All we need to do is lend moral support for the actions they need to take.

Let the Jews and the Muslims fight their own battles. Hell, let the Iranians win their own freedom.

BS! Iran - #1 Terrorist State in the World - is on the verge of gaining nuclear weaponry and the means to drop it on our laps. Just like North Korea, both States are run by fanatical Leaders...one Religious and the other, maniacal narcissism or God only knows what.

We should do everything we can to take down those Mullahs and their Islamist Thugs outside of overt Military intervention. Will save tons of blood and treasure in the future.
