So who do you think can win?

There’s an attachment both to him and against him that isn’t ordinary.

Team Only-Trump cannot and will not ever understand this. They cannot conceptualize that a huge segment of the otherwise conservative population just won’t ever vote for him again. Despite the last three election cycles bearing that out.

The only thing they care about is the 2020 election.

It really only seems like such a huge problem when you compare it to how Democrats function.

Agreed. The dems are phenomenal at circling the wagons. I wish we were like that. But we’re more individualistic and that’s a problem that we have to overcome on Election Day.

I don’t look at Trump as your typical politician where party loyalty will win out when the chips are down.

Party loyalty on the Republican side is dead. You think Desantis would get "party loyalty?" Pence? Haley?

If the party is fractured for the general even to the tune of 10% of voters we get our butts handed to us everywhere.

That is the reality. And, it's going to be the case as long as there's a contested primary. You saying "It's time to fight it out and may the best man win" makes you either functionally retarded or just a blatant liar who has adopted the tactics of those that only care about keeping Trump from winning.

There's only one path forward for the Republican party. It's Trump, and Desantis needs to get out of the race and get behind him very soon.

But, we all know that won't happen because stopping Trump is the primary objective of the Desantis campaign.

You mean that the purpose of a political campaign is to win over the other candidates?

No fricking way. You’re so insightful.

I’m just talking about Ron and Don here but I believe both can win.

There are different paths but it’s mandatory that the Right is unified.

For Trump I believe he has problems with independent voters. The last few elections have shown that in a variety of the purple states. However, I think he can get them back with the current track that the country finds itself on. People may not like him but his economy was awesome and the world was a calmer place. Those things should still matter. The man can be highly abrasive but his policies were on point.

For Ron I think he’ll have better natural appeal to the indies. They’ll listen to him and that gives him a chance to win over on his own without having to depend on the country imploding. I’m fully aware that the media will make him out to be Trump 2.0 no matter what he does. I don’t know if he has the charisma needed to overcome that but he can definitely get into policy and give thoughtful answers.

No, I mean the purpose of the Desantis campaign is to keep Trump from winning the general.

You being confused about this in the context of a conversation about "party loyalty" and a "fractured party" says everything about your ability to keep up with a simple conversation.

It's a double edged sword. Loyalty is great as it creates a floor for your support but the strong negative feelings, downright hatred in some cases, also means your ceiling can be much lower than it should be. Trump is one of the personalities that triggers those responses. He's your guy until death or kill him with fire. There aren't many people that are ambivalent about him.

You think that Trump is entitled to the nomination, which was fine for 2020. Times have changed whether you like or accept that or not. Trump should earn the nomination. That’s all that is meant by “may the best man win”. All the rest of your bullshite is you making things up.

Trump will win the nomination like it always has been done by winning the delegates...

I think Trump will. But he still needs to fight for it. I’m sure you think the same.
