BOSTON (Reuters) - Pension fund managers and religious investors on Friday asked top social media companies to step up their content control efforts to reduce the threat of violence ahead of the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Joe Biden next week.

The effort is the latest pressure on Facebook Inc, Twitter Inc and Alphabet Inc over extreme rhetoric after the storming of the U.S. Capitol last week by supporters of President Donald Trump.

In letters sent on Thursday, the investors - including New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, the Service Employees International Union and the Unitarian Universalist Association - asked for steps including disabling the coding they said tends to elevate conspiracy theories and radicalizing content, and for the companies to continue to flag content with hashtags like #Stopthesteal.

Wow.... begging for censorship!

So you invest in a product and then want it to essentially become a different product?

Where is this threat of violence? I keep seeing the media push this but I haven't seen any concrete examples of a social media push for violence.

No surprise here. One organization is communist, the other atheist.

We don’t need controls.

Just enforce the current platform via publisher regulations and net neutrality

What an abortion of a story.

Get back to me when Morgan Stanley or Barclay's says this.

Religious organizations are not immune from being taken over by activist organizations to sway opinions. Just because they say they are a religious or faith based org. you need to judge them on their actions. Do not follow blindly just because they pretend to be based on faith values.

The government people are LARPing. They put plastic bubbles on their heads and hide under their desks while a dude with with Viking horns takes selfies. You can't take these people seriously.
