Are you arguing that the government has to import Indian tech workers because American workers are too “lazy”? If no, what exactly are you arguing?

We import factory workers because Americans are so lazy. Nerd work is perfect for the lazy.

I lived this. Damn near failed my calculus-based statistics class at UGA because the Chinese TA could barely speak English, let alone communicate well enough to make herself understood.

Think I read that over 50% of hires in tech companies of people with PHDs were foreign born.

Doing some reading, I think this is also tied to our elite universities where many of these PHDs went to school.

What does that have to do with welfare?

All the Indians here on Visas chain immigrate their parents and put them on every welfare program known to man.

They also hide any wealth the parents have in India.

The parents then provide babysitting and additional income.

Couldn’t disagree more. We are losing drafting and design jobs left and right to India. Engineering jobs too. They are some of the laziest shysters around. I was a project lead and had to send work to India. It comes back completely unusable and 9 times out of 10 requires complete rework. Give me one American at 60 an hour over 10 Indians at 10 an hour. Its slave labor is what it is.

there are only like 65k of these approved a year from around the globe. And Indians can only be 5% of they total
If these claims are true, then this thread seems like whiny horseshite.

I'd be more worried about Latin and South America getting in on American tech jobs long term before the Indians. It's easier to outsource there and there's less of a talent gap.

Already happening at my employer. They've stopped hiring Americans and have been going with contractors from Mexico and Dominican Republic.

I havrnt read this whole thread but what is not often mentioned is that you are less likely to have litigation, EEOC complaints, etc with those workers. American priced themselves out the market in some cases

Or we can push a real investment into current American citizens through education to allow them the chance to compete

If these people were talented, India wouldn't be a mess

I don't know anything about Indians or their work ethic or competency and I don't know anything about tech industries.

I do know that a sovereign nation has a right to to decide who it lets into it and who it denies entry to, and I know that it has a responsibility to its citizens to act in their best interest.

I also know that a nation is more than an economy.

If American citizens can't get jobs in certain industries—including PhD jobs in universities—we have no business allowing immigrants in to do those jobs.

That should be a last resort.

Now companies choosing to outsource labor voluntarily overseas...I don't think there's anything you can reasonably do about that.

But letting immigrants in? Naw.

I have yet to see anyone from India work any manual labor jobs.
