In the end, we're going to end up with 'fox' versions of FB, twitter, youtube...

its the only logical answer to how fully left these giant social media companies are going.
its their right, blah blah blah and thats fine but i hope their shareholders are going to be equally happy in the end when they've alienated 50% (or more) of their users who begin deleting their accounts and start to seek out actual sites that promote free speech instead of 'correct' speech.
sad but they're only digging their own grave.
eta CAD killed his FB account in 2010 and has no instagram or twitter but does post occasionally on reddit due to sites promoting just about every doodad he owns.

a little known app called 'gab' tried it..it was quickly branded as a 'hate speech' app and google banned it from the play store with the quickness
they control the message and access. eventually that will change and by 'adjusting' their news algorithm this week they are hastening their demise.

For social media..though...
It's an uphill battle. Next to impossible to rival those platforms. They are the biggest in the world.. and they crush anything that has the potential to challenge them.

if you are getting your news from facebook something is fricking wrong with you. so you get what you deserve. all it does is promote tribilist echo chambers.
facebook is for looking at pictures of people you knew a long time ago, and are never going to see again.

People have been using alternative sources for a while, it's just not organized yet.

FB has jumped the shark and i can read trump's tweets without having an account so not sure what i'm missing by not having accounts.

Lib platforms pressured gab's website domain host.. and got them to drop gab. They had to go find another.

You have to use subversion now. It has to look like another platform until its large enough. Then, the platform has to morph into the same space as Google, Apple, Facebook, etc.

This thread makes me so happy. The right championed corporatocracy favoring policies for decades and are now finding out it's a bad idea.

never forget that google play store has been systematically removing *ALL* 1 star reviews of the CNN app ever since Trump branded them fake news.
makes you question all ratings on the internet doesnt it?
eta and those were not anonymous reviews either. they are registered google accounts, complete with personal info, credit card, etc.
google has just decided for certain app reviews you are a 'deplorable' and therefore your opinion shoud be stricken from the record.

Yahoo and altavista , at their peak, were nothing compared to the trio of twitter, fb and google.
It's not just going after twitter (or any other single platform).. if you go after twitter to challenge them, the other platforms and companies rise up to swat you down. Gab was swatted down by apple, google, fb... the aclu, etc.
The alliance they've built up, makes it impossible to overtake any of them. There will be no realistic chance of challenging them. With new platforms.

Does Gab have any censorship policy? I went on there once and saw a lot of alt-right Richard Spencer types. I mean I don't care if they let them speak, but I think a lot of otherwise right leaning people feel uncomfortable being associated with that mess. And it's not just a few people, some of the most popular "tweets" over there were alt-right (front page).
For instance, I just went on there and here's one of the first "tweets" I saw:
