So why did you post a link with fake news in it?
This is from Trump's guy telling Trump. Not independent reporting from WaPo, learn how quotes work.

As your OP link says, it turns out Trump was right. We have a $17 billion/year deficit with Canada.
The link doesn't show that at all. It actually shows we have a trade surplus with Canada.

I just caught you in another lie.
The link you posted says we have a goods trade deficit with Canada and you ignored that part of the article.
What is it with you having to lie to make a point? That's very revealing...

Canada is currently our 2nd largest goods trading partner with $544.0 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2016. Goods exports totaled $266.0 billion; goods imports totaled $278.1 billion. The U.S. goods trade deficit with Canada was $12.1 billion in 2016.

We have a trade surplus with Canada, that's fact.
Trump said we have a trade deficit with Canada, that's false.

It's like Trump saying LSU won all of their games last year. Then one of his people coming back and saying yeah if you don't count the ones where another team scored more points than LSU, he's right!
You're not good with analogies are you?

When it comes to goods being traded, we have a deficit with Canada. The link you provided says just that.
Quit trying to make shite up after your own link says otherwise.

Trade includes Goods and Services.
When you look at the total differences between goods and services between US and Canada, we have a surplus.

Which is correct?

We we always talk about trade surpluses and deficits it's the value of goods being traded that we are referring to.
