I'm a small business owner, I have one employee (US citizen) who is really devoted to his job, very reliable and proficient, his total cost to the company is $125k/year. I have an opportunity to hire two recent immigrants who are qualified for the position and will work for $50k/year, with a total cost to the company of $140k. If I decide to hire the two recent immigrants I will increase my company's profits by 10-15%. Nothing to do with merit, my $125k/year US citizen employee is a good employee, he's been replaced due to cost considerations.
