My pocket book (and yours) will take a hit. Then that will put pressure on the minimum wage just to keep pace with the new higher prices. The knee bone is connected to the thigh bone, etc., etc. Unless you're one of the new (high paying) job holders, you'll be hard pressed to keep your head above water.

Amiright? Prove me wrong.

Sincerely,

Milton Friedman

They'll cost more at the time/point of purchase. They will cost the same over time (and actual cost).

So what, we should sellout America to save a few pennies?

Once they have all our manufacturing jobs whats to stop them from jacking up the prices on us?

I don't believe this is true. Lower corporate tax rates, lower income tax rates, cheaper health insurance, better interest rates, etc. Could end up possibly giving US citizens even more buying power than we have now.

It's called owning the negative. No one is claiming prices won't go up.

A slight amount of inflation is one of the costs of a prosperous economy.

We may pay more but there will be more people working and paying taxes so taxes should go down plus we will ha e better made products.

We not participating in free trade so much as we're borrowing and importing.

Deficits + Trade imbalance can't last forever. When the end must come, be thankful its during an administration that's pro-growth and manufacturing, not pro-regulation.

There's no reason we can't participate in a global economy and enjoy those benefits while retaining our sovereignty and a manufacturing base. I imagine that it will be a fine line to walk but it has to be done. As of right now with my salary if I had to pay a little more for things it wouldn't hurt too bad.

Already seeing it now in my industry with the price of steel going up in anticipation. Problem with all these lower corporate tax blah blah blah is that is doesn't work. Look at the difference in margins for CEO pay. These guys only take jobs out of country to put more in their pockets.

That's just it. It's subject to how close you are to subsistence. That, of course, is subject to a million different interpretations.

Because if we imposed a tariff as a counter, not unilaterally, there are no other countries outside of the country we tariffed that would have the same good at a comparable price? And we're certain that prices increase at a greater percentage than wages increase?

This is going to be a situation by situation measured result. This isn't some sort of blanket tariff on all foreign manufactured products from every country, it is likely a strategic tariff on a specific product, from one specific country.

And that one product from that one country isn't manufactured exclusively in a vacuum.

Peter Schiff was partially correct, Trumpkins sometimes embrace globalism.

Produce prices will definitely go up. We already import a lot from Mexico, and the produce we grow here is heavily reliant on Mexican labor, both temporary visas and illegal. Farmers already lament American workers refuse to work a lot of those jobs.

one word that is missing right now in many sectors of the economy is competition. Sounds like Trump is going to level the playing field by getting rid of regulations that only favor the big companies that have the capital to wade throught them.

I did my fair share of economics classes but my brain is burnt out on these end of the month sales. How would we ever go back to the dollar being worth more? When things more much cheaper like back in the 50's and 60's. I understand people were paid less, but they were made in the USA and didn't cost as much. Is this possible to achieve again?
