What if Putin doesn’t agree to peace terms?

Screw Putin and Russia. WTF is wrong with you? I hate Z but geez, the Russians are to be blamed for almost EVERY war (including cold ones) since WWII. Millions of deaths (Americans) are on their hands. They are pieces of shite. Never trust them. Ever.

Russia has good reason to not trust the US. HW Bush (via Reagan) turned over an opportunity for a complete reset with Russian relations. Every president since Clinton (other than Trump) has done everything in their power to ruin things.

Why not try and reset our relationship with Russia?

If Zelensky won’t agree to give up part of his country, we should move in with tanks and meet Russia in the middle in glorious victory.
Only if we keep going and destroy the Russian army like we should’ve done after WWII

Might as well. Zelensky isn't going to concede until other countries stop buying him shite.

So, it doesn’t matter that Putin invaded and occupies Ukraine land. Zelensky is obligated to concede what exactly?

Whether or not he’s obligated to, he needs to live in the real world. Sans American military intervention Crimea and the Donbas are Russian now.

It's not that it doesn't matter. But it is what it is. You need to learn to view the world as it is, rather than the way you think it ought to be.

Russia has control of that land. They're not giving it back. Never. This war has zero chance of ending without new borders being drawn. Russia will have the eastern portion of Ukraine, and they will damned sure maintain a land bridge from Russia to Ukraine along the Ukraine southern border.

The only thing negotiable at this point, is precisely where the new borders will be drawn.

Put simply, Ukraine will lose land, and they will never be a part of NATO. If you don't want them to lose any land, or you want them to have a possibility of joining NATO, then the next step is to put NATO/American troops on the ground for direct engagement with Russia. Period.

We cross that bridge when we get to it.

Part of the deal will include consequences of Russia violating the deal in any way. Those consequences should be stated publicly to all citizens of NATO countries and to Americans. Once it's public, and Putin violates, then the entire western world will deal with Russia together. That's how it works.

That said, I don't see it coming to that. Unless, of course, NATO and America are the ones who violate the deal. We'd surely not do that, would we? I mean, we're the good guys in this deal. Amirite?!?

What planet are you from and how old are you? lol

Russia was our ally in WWII, in spite of a not so strong relationship with them. The world was beat up and exhausted from war. And you suggest we should have started another one at that moment?!? Thank goodness you people have no real say so in any of this. Good lord.

A million casualties.....Putin's not been trying???? So Cheedo Peedo tells him to start trying now?? Thanks for the Monday laugh

If Russia has lost a million men ,how come every time there is a dead soldier swap between Russia and Ukraine … Ukraine gets back 20 times more dead bodies than the Russians. I doubt Russia has lost 200000 . Still a lot but it isn’t a million

Judging by the downvotes in this thread, I guess the majority of you are John Bolton types, ready to go to WAR WAR WAR with Russia as soon as possible?

Trump says U.S. will help guarantee Ukraine's security if peace deal signed

quote:

President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took questions at the White House on Monday in the same setting as their disastrous blowup in February, but with a much friendlier tone.

Why it matters: While it was all smiles for the camera, it was a tense few days in the lead-up to Monday's meeting, with Trump questioning Zelensky's willingness to make peace and Ukrainian officials worrying that Russian President Vladimir Putin manipulated Trump during their summit in Alaska.

However, Trump's endorsement of strong security guarantees for Ukraine under any peace deal was very welcome news for Kyiv.
Driving the news: Asked if the U.S. was prepared to send troops to guarantee Ukraine's security after the war, Trump said that European countries would form the "first line of defense" but "we'll be involved."

Trump did not offer any more details beyond saying the U.S. will do its part to ensure any peace deal endures for the long term. "We will give them very good protection, very good security. That's part of it," Trump said.
Trump reiterated his desire for a trilateral summit involving Putin and Zelensky after this meeting. But Putin has yet to endorse that idea, and Trump said it's unclear whether the meeting will happen.
"He's expecting my call when we're finished with this meeting," Trump said of Putin.
Friction point: Trump came out of the summit with Putin declaring that it was now "up to President Zelensky" to make a deal. But Putin's maximalist claims to Ukrainian territory make the prospect of a breakthrough in the immediate future highly uncertain.

Seven European leaders arrived at the White House ahead of Zelensky. After Trump and Zelensky meet, they will take part in a larger summit with those leaders — all strong supporters of Ukraine. That's scheduled to begin at 2:30pm ET.
On the agenda: Security guarantees — which Ukraine insists upon as part of any deal — and territorial concessions, which Trump believes will be necessary to achieve peace.

Zelensky didn't answer directly when asked whether he was prepared to cede Ukrainian territory to make peace.
The intrigue: Two Trump advisers told Axios ahead of the meeting that this would not be a repeat of the diplomatic explosion in February.

The White House did ask if Zelensky would be wearing a suit, after his attire last time irked Trump. Zelensky wore a black jacket but not a full business suit, though Trump complimented the outfit when a reporter asked about it.
State of play: Zelensky made clear in his social media posts ahead of the meeting that while he and those leaders "all share a strong desire to end this war quickly and reliably," he won't cede territory to Russia.

Trump doubled down on this stance in a Truth Social post just before Zelensky arrived in D.C. late Sunday that said the Ukrainian leader "can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to," adding there's no "getting back" Crimea and "NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE."

Trump's tone was different on Monday on the question of Zelensky's desire for peace. "I know [Zelensky], I know myself, and I believe Vladimir Putin wants it ended," he said.
