When 90% of government is untouchable nothing changes.
Call a constitutional convention.

Put the Texas Constitution on the table as a template.

1. Eliminate the state income tax. You're immediately going to have people looking to move there from neighboring states in the South.
2. Cut public school funding dramatically. Defund liberal arts programs at the state's colleges and universities and divert that funding to STEM departments.
3. Enact a voucher system that lets parents take their kids to any private school they wish.
4. Copy Texas' med-mal reforms.
5. Roll back medicaid expansion.

Louisiana as Texas without the californian and illegal alien infestation? I'd move there tomorrow.

Strip all stolen ORRIs from the Long family and dedicate them to the LA University system...how in the frick has this not happened??

The problem is the LA french culture which tolerates gov graft as long as there’s cheap beer, hot gumbo and music. I don’t know how you change that other than moving your own arse out of the state.

This is part of the charm of Louisiana in much the same manner as the crappy roads in New Orleans.

- workforce licensing reform (Louisiana is the worst in the country)

- cut taxes and make a radical shift in policy to be more small business friendly and stop giving out hand outs to big business

- reform TOPs to have a financial need component and also make it harder to get and have to pay back if you don’t finish school

- make some of the 4 year schools into 2 year technical or community colleges

5) I would end Homestead Exemptions and the Industrial 10 year tax exemption and hold collections still for one year so that millages would dramatically fall as the billions of dollars of property would come into the tax rolls.

So your argument is that you’d end exemptions which would dramatically increase coffers.

Then you would turn around and drop millages. Yeah. I’ll eat my own shoes if any politician in Louisiana ever dropped taxes because they had too much money...

All bond issue millages would fall automatically. When you intact a bond issue for a new school for example all that is collected is amount used to pay the bonds. If you have a bond that requires $10 million to service I am for spreading that $10 million over ALL the property instead of just the property that is not presently exempted.

The only millages that would require legislative intervention are the mandated fixed millages. So what I am saying if a fixed millages is bringing in $20 million it will be adjusted down so that still just brings in $20 million. Today it may take 100 mills to do than with my expanded base it might take 50 mills.

I will tell you something else if every property owner is paying the taxes purposes and passing new taxes will be much harder.

Baton Rouge loop

Ask Texas to annex Louisiana. Which would probably be required to achieve the loop.

Idiotic take. From someone who obviously has no clue about the number of registered Republicans and Democrats in this state. Or how much the open primary system allows Republicans to dominate local, Parish and statewide races.

It’s frustrating to see people I generally agree with on most subjects display such ignorance about why Conservatism and Republicans have made such inroads in Louisiana.

If you didn’t have crossover voting thanks to the Open Primary System in LA the Republican Party would be in shitty shape. This is coming from a conservative.

Educate yourself or stop posting stupid shite. One or the other. Seriously. It’s both free-and fantastic-advice.

Now that that’s done:

1.) Call a Constitutional Convention and remove statutory protections for state agency funding. Everyone’s cock is on the block. Not just healthcare and higher ed.

2.) End Homestead Exemption.

3.) End Corporate Tax Exemptions.

4.) Reduce funding levels to all non Land-Sea Grant Universities in-state. Force them to consolidate into the Vocational/Technical System.

5.) Reroute TOPS to only be applicable to VOTECH System Degrees and Certifications.

6.) Institute Massive Tort Reform.

What did you think about what posted earlier in the thread on page 1 about the things that would correct these two problems?

I think we'd do this if you showed a little more love and were kind to TAMU when they play LSU.

There’s no offense intended here. Though I’m certain you’ll infer it regardless. In which case I apologize in advance.

Having said that, I’m gonna be honest when I admit that I try not to engage with you, Bud. In my experience you have no interest in honest discussion. You seek affirmation that you’re right, won’t tolerate an opposing viewpoint, and you ascribe opinions to anyone who disagrees with you in such a way as to make conversing with you something I’d prefer not to do.

I have no interest in trying to have an honest discussion with someone who treats folks the way you do when you disagree.

Have a good one.

My mistake.

You are the guy that brought up film welfare and tariffs in the thread about Maneri. I didn’t catch it was you.

I didn’t mean to bother you.

I would close/privatize a lot of public universities and merge the ones in close proximity. We have too many and I am not keen on needlessly subsidizing so many Marxist indoctrinators.

Starting with LSU and Southern in Baton Rouge. In 2019, it is ridiculous that there are two universities within a few miles of each other with duplicate law schools, colleges of business, etc.. Same for UNO and SUNO that have duplication and are in close proximity.

Are you aware that universities in Louisiana are, for the most part, almost private now, receiving relatively very little funding from the state? Public schools and health care account for most of the state budget.
