Sure Rispone still needs to shore some things up....but what we do know....what Edwards has done has not worked worth a damn and has hurt LA and its citizens....I'm sure what he would do as a lame duck would be way worse for us.

Someone's disdain for Edwards doesn't make Rispone a viable candidate. He has nothing to say, he's just "there".

So I should vote for the guy I have disdain for? And btw, there are reasons for that disdain.

So you are saying he is following JBE's strategy from 2015?

Louisiana is required to have a balanced budget prior to the new fiscal year (which begins July 1 every year). Every single year the state budget must pass the legislature and it must be balanced (i.e., "deficit spending" is prohibited).

The problem is the manner in which JBE's surplus was created: aggressively taxing productive people and companies in a very, very short amount of time.

The budget gap a few years ago was borderline fake news. Mass hysteria was created by screaming over and over that Louisiana had a two billion dollar shortfall and couldn't survive anymore unless taxes were increased...that's exactly how this surplus materialized. The gov confiscated way more money than necessary to pay for things he wanted real bad.

Louisiana's state budget is bigger than it's ever been and there's nothing new or interesting to show for it. Our roads are still awful. Public schools are still a joke. "Free health insurance" is abundant and ripe for fraud and abuse. Zero announced from JBE on how all "his" new money will be spent.

Guess what? That surplus is going to cover the lost tax base of St George since the general fund from the whole parish was used for city services.

you can make this criticism when Edwards has a platform. As far as I can tell his platform is still 1) Not Jindal 2) Honor Code.

What is he going to do to right a ship headed in the wrong direction. He had 4 years and didn't fix anything, so what is he going to do differently?

So wait...now St. George is leaving the state? If so is there a path to get my house and 2 lots in Crowley annexed into the state of St. George?

To be fair he added two points to it:

3) Raise taxes as high as I can
4) Give Medicaid to anyone that wants it that thinks they are eligible with no oversight.

Explanation:

Surplus in your checking/savings is still your money.

Surplus for government was your money (past tense for JBE supporters)

Yea I was trying to be cute and funny

But yea he's already bent the knee to SWB so many times I'm not sure why he wouldn't just write her the check....I wonder what Motel 6 that "transaction" might happen at.

Huh? Thought this was about JBEs re-election strategy surplus, which developed through state tax revenue stolen...I mean...extracted from state sales tax increases and state corporate and income tax changes.

St. George is a result of wasted local--not state--tax dollars stemming from EBR local gov't leadership's generational neglect. St. George taxpayers can't even escape JBE's tax claws.

A surplus beats a $2 billion dollar deficit every time. Do you run a deficit in your personal finances? So how does a conservative governor that champions not raising taxes, end up leaving a $2 billion deficit. Sounds like a spend liberal, without the taxes so we call them credit card conservatives. Run up a huge debt, steal/take millions from state pension/plans, and then later blame your successor for having to clean up the mess you and your conservative legislature left.

You think running deficit every year and needing to slash funding to higher education and healthcare is better than a surplus? I get the idea of aiming for a zero-based budget, but I'll take a surplus over higher ed and healthcare cuts any day.
