I would say it is a very tough and dangerous job with very low pay for the risk.

I would discourage both.
No more than 10 years ago, I would have been incredibly proud to have my sons or daughters enlist....
It wouldn’t surprise me if governments promote war just as a means of population control.

It's really sad that we probably could not field a competent fighting force if we needed to now.
Young people of that age have been told that our nation is bad. So what's the motivation? They're addicted to video games, and they're overweight. They get participation trophies. They need "safe spaces".
God help us.

I would t want one of my children to become a cop or join the military. I served in the military and was always proud of it until now. No way I would fight for the trash in Washington.

Don’t but if their heart is set on it then I’d say do it in Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming otherwise go be an FBI, ATF, or secret service

I’d say no, just no.
I had my opportunity to be one, albeit in a desk position, and I rejected it because I would have had to spend a year working in lockup first.
At this point it is a thankless fricking job that gets you used as a dickwipe by the local politicians.

Old man has been a cop for all but the first few years of my life. Retiring at the end of next year and it can’t come fast enough.
If either of my boys wanted to be a cop I will do EVERYTHING in my power to discourage it. If either want to a be federal LEO of any sort I will have a real tough time figuring out how to deal with it.

I would be 100% good with it because I believe I have raised them with the right morals and views. We need good people to try and clean up both institutions. If not for good people in those roles our country truly is doomed. I can’t live thinking we really are doomed.

I currently do have one. His mother and I have tried to dissuade him, but you know what happens if you try to warn a kid too much.
