We supported multiple groups, primarily the Kurds (especially in recent years). Look up the size of the bounty we had on the current president of Syria. Its goober behavior to pretend that this was the result the US desired

Once we helped foment revolution, the outcome was kinda determined. So we can pretend that “well, we didn’t want those guys!” But we helped start the bus. We knew where it was going.

Fair enough, and I don’t know how many times need to say we had no business being there at all
I just think it’s weird to cheer for an Iranian puppet, when Iran is the head/strongest component of the global Islamist movement.

Alawites are an offshoot of the Shi'a. They've had some friction in the past but nothing on the scale of Shi'a/Sunni hatred. A better question is why did Barry Soetoro back Al Qaeda in Syria? The sarin attack wiped out the leaders of three secular opposition groups to the exclusive benefit of Sunni crazies. That attack went completely against Assad's interests.

I would lose my humanity responding…this type of savagery inspires savagery.
I don’t know how far I’d go to get even, but I don’t wanna know.
