The problem with this, if I read you correctly, is going to be the urban/rural divide in states with real cities.
Take Texas. San Antonio, Austin, Houston, up to Dallas, breaking away from the rest of the state would be something.

Bombing blue cities is a better solution

California would've never been admitted to the union had they espoused their current political and cultural values at the time nor would they today ever elect to join a nation predicated on the traditional American values and freedoms enshrined under the constitution.
Short of decentralization of the strong federal government we currently see there is no stable path forward.

There are political theorists that believe once a nation gets to a certain size, that it can no longer be united .I’ve come to agree with this. The US should be several countries now. Alabamians have nothing in common with Californians or Wisconsinites or New Yorkers. Let the country go to natural regions and follow whatever policies their people wish.

What you're speaking of is practically impossible.
Not it isn’t. It would mean minorities would have to move. This has been done after every war. People would simply have a decision to make: do I stay here and endure the abuse and hate of the majority, or do I move to friendlier climes where Id fit in?

I'll edit due to context fixing your phrasing issue
That's not really how it's done after wars, brother. Usually it's 2 different people not the same people culturally like in the US.
This "othering" for the out-group is pretty histrionic.

So it would be much easier to defend ourselves if we had our own countries and they had theirs. Separation = Safety.

Correct.
How do you divide it? I live in a rural county in Oklahoma, no city within 70 miles. Even at that, my county went 60/40 Trump/Biden. So it’s still close.
Someone said the clearest predictor of how someone will vote is if they have a college degree or not. How do you divide that?

But as someone already stated, the folks fleeing the very conditions they voted for, and proceeded to vote in similar fashion in the states that aren't retarded is the problem.
If you want to live under the control of whacko liberals, why would you move to a conservative state? Not saying it wouldn't happen (for all sorts of reasons), but it wouldn't happen in volume.

It’s not possible unless you want the bullshite that came with the separation of India and Pakistan
India and Pakistan were forcibly rent apart... India wanted unification, muzzies wanted their own state and the british wanted to wash their hands of it.
Hopefully we could achieve something less drastic and without another sovereign drawing the lines.

A return to federalism would be good enough. Bring the power back to the states and minimize fedgov's influence on American daily life. If you want to live like woke libs want you to live, live in CA, OR, WA, MN, etc. Whatever your politics, if it's important enough - go find your state.
AoC* for the win!

If California leaves, WA and Oregon are almost assured to go with them, and this would frick the US pretty badly (especially in combination with how we're treating Canada and Mexico). Losing all port access to the Pacific would be costly (literally). If California were to work with China, they would dominate tech and AI and the US would be left behind bigly.
California isn’t going to leave. If they tried we would simply invade them to keep the territory.

Have you not seen the stats of liberals fleeing California/NY for Texas, Georgia, etc?

Agreed.
Unfortunately, the leadership of the left hates America, and seeing it divided equates to success for them.
That is why I said…
Balkanization = capitulation.

People who are being overly emotional and histrionic don't understand how close the country still is, politically. Trump barely got the popular vote. The House and Senate are still close to 50/50. Counties (like your's) who are heavily one way or the other rarely go past 70/30.

You need to consider what Texas looks like with power taken from the federal government and given back to the states. Circumstances would be nothing like they are today.

Why did you post this in a thread about Balkanization?
The underlying presumption of this discussion is different US territories/regions breaking away and forming new states.
