It also doesn’t work because the whole premise is that such a large consequence (WW1) was unexpected based on a somewhat small event (an Archduke being assignation).
Making the comparison, by definition, invalidates the comparison.
You could only make a valid comparison after the consequence happens and “no one saw it coming”.

The only country that would even think about stepping in would be Russia and what have they done in the last 48 hours? Not to mention, I imagine war with Iran would be bad for what's left of Russia's economy.
