If we are going to call out the left for accosting public people in private settings, then we have to hold this guy accountable, too.

If I'm out, with or without family, and a stranger steps up and calls me Fredo, I'd probably give him a WTF look and move on. I would not start an altercation, and after the fact try to have the word Fredo removed from our language, because those reactions are f*cking absurd.

This is a common conservative sentiment. I used to feel this same way when it was a call to keep politics civil. "Don't stoop to the left's tactics! We have to hold the high moral ground! We must keep things civil!"
We're in a cold civil war already. There are no tactics to which we cannot stoop. Once the dust settles and we are victorious, then we can preen about morality or whether something is underhanded. Right now we are in a fight with a nihilistic all consuming force to keep the nation from going completely socialist and lunatic. Keeping the gloves off is denying the obvious at this point.
The left has decided that either they win or the country burns. How do you reason with that? What good is it to try and be civil to that?
