The key to Rush was his humor and charm, which Levin lacks. Levin has his own strengths.
Steyn is good too and hilarious, but doesn't educate the audience quite to the degree Rush does. But Steyn might be the best alternative.

Last spring when Rush would have guest hosts due to his treatment, I started listening to Steve Deace. Eventually even when Rush was back I would continue to listen to Deace. His show’s format is excellent with his friend as cohost and his producer providing a 20 something perspective. It’s very funny and actually isn’t afraid to talk religion (although it is mostly politics)

Steyn is the safest play for now. We know him. We like him.
But, he would need to be a little more serious from time to time and get better at explaining and analysis.
No one will be better than Rush. Not ever.

Initially I think Bo (James Golden) should do the monologue and maybe "host" the rotating microphone in character as Bo Snerdley. If Bo can develop a facility to fill content (his role has been different, but he partnered with Rush for almost the entire run of the show) - I mean he has hosted his own show at times so the potential is certainly there. Give him a few months to grow into the role (assuming he wants it) but not have the burden of "replacing" Rush right away.

If we could get a blend of about 70% Levin and 30% Steyn, we'd be onto something. Still wouldn't be as good as Rush, but what is?

Maybe it should be a woman, there are some very good conservative female radio hosts out there, would make it easier to not continuously compare a new host to Rush.
