There is no argument that it's a beautiful place, but the juice just isn't worth the squeeze with the Caribbean being so close. Friendlier people, beaches are as good if not better, and I don't have to sit on a damn plane for 10 hours, not to mention all the time spent at the airport.

Hawaii is not even comparable to the Caribbean. If you don't like 10-18 hours of travel to get to a destination and/or you want to save money, go to the Caribbean, otherwise Hawaii is orders of magnitude better.

Don’t live south of Austin? There is a pretty large “expat” community of folks from the islands between Austin and San Antonio. A buddy of mine is one of them.

Hawaii is basically the extremely rich, extremely poor, and the military. Stationed there for 6 years miss it sometimes but never crosses my mind to actually go back.

LOCK EM UP

We have some neighbors, who moved to Texas from Hawaii, they say despite what you see on TV it's terrible.

Homeless shitting on the sidewalks, crime, immigrants, plus nearly all goods have to be shipped in so everything is terribly expensive.

went last year. The tourist areas and things of that nature are still great....the rest is terrible. especially the Honolulu. Felt like i was in china driving down the interstate. Apartment buildings everywhere, trashy AF, with balconies stacked full of junk, thinks hanging over the rails etc.

overall when you get away from the beach areas, it was very very poor, even Maui. At times felt like i was in the country in the mississippi delta from a poverty standpoint or worse.

This is false. Only Two people arrested were suspected associates of Tren de Aragua
Ooooh. Way to keep it factual.

What is your point in trying to correct this? The point of the story is that even Hawaii is seeing illegal immigration. Continental US is saturated. Are you tryting to diminish that for some reason? You want illegals to continue to get govt assistance that taxpayers don't get? Explain your position to us

Why do facts bother you so much?

Both places have their pros and cons. Hawaii's biggest advantage is it's natural beauty, and I'm not talking about the beaches. Caribbean beaches are routinely ranked as the best in the world. Hands down, the people of the Caribbean are much friendlier overall, than the Hawaiian people. They want your money, they just don't want you there. I can grab a flight out of Atlanta and be in Aruba in 4 hours. Virgin Islands are even closer if I want a tropical, mountain scene. Snorkeling there is better and it's far cheaper to stay and eat. Hell, I can go to the Caribbean for about as much a trip to freaking 30A! If I want a nice relaxing 5 night trip to de-stress, St. John is about as good as it gets. To each their own. I've done both multiple times, and Hawaii is less and less on my list when I get the urge to relax and vacation.

North shore of oahu is amazing

But you will never find Hotel Street in a vacation brochure. That side of the island is completely opposite of the North Shore.

Oh and Waikiki beach is a huge disappointment

I was in Honolulu and Waikiki this past summer. And I will never return.

Honolulu is just gross and dirty. Getting to Pearl Harbor from Waikiki was like rush hour traffic in the bad part of a big city. But it lasts all day.

And Waikiki Beach? Most overrated beach I've ever been to. Easily.

I went there my very first time to Oahu. Never been back since. North Shore is great, and I always go to Waimea Valley when I'm there. That never gets old. Laie is my favorite town with the friendliest locals. Probably because they are all Mormons.

That being said, St. John USVI is a place I that just scream "RELAX". But, if I was to live somewhere, it would probably be St. Croix. Creature comforts of St. Thomas with the laid back of St. John.

agree 1000%. I like maui but when you got outside the cities/towns away from the tourist areas...yea its beautiful, but its also extreme poverty.

tons of hippies everywhere in both places

to me Honolulu was prolly the worst large city i have visited just from a poverty standpoint. Very much an asian feel to hit.

I really loved our resort but the beaches are way way way over rated. Terrible sand, cold water. now the scenic views are breath taking but overall very very much over rated.
